Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

    unreal.

    well done Spain.

should've been beaten by the end of normal time.

should've won it in extra time.

Italy were the first to blink.

    27 isn't that young, Ronnie.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,775 ✭✭✭✭Gbear

That was the highest calibre of penalty taking I've ever seen.

They just didn't give a ****. Balls of steel on the whole lot of them (except Bonucci).

Normally you get a scuff or a close call. Neither of the keepers came within an ass's roar of the ball.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,207 ✭✭✭miralize

Jesus Navas is not young Ronnie, you idiot.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,014 ✭✭✭✭Corholio

Italy deserved it just for Candreva's balls of steel first penalty.

Of all the teams I didnt expect to get at Spain was Italy, but showed Spain are fragile when you do. Better finishing and Italy would have been through in 90 minutes.

Thank God the shootout was good, made the game worth watching.

I think Brazil have a big advantage in the final, with Spain having played 30 minutes more, and a day later. If it's any kind of barometer, Brazil also did a much better job on Italy when they played.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,846 ✭✭✭Moneymaker

Italy could well have won in 90 mins if Balotelli was fit.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 6,704 ✭✭✭G.K.

    Italy really missed Balotelli tonight.

Similarly, Fabregas was a huge loss for Spain imo. Silva offered nothing.

    EDIT: Snap, MM.

The heart, the spirit, the courage of this group of Spanish players is every bit as remarkable as their brand of football. Spain, a football nation with conviction, with courage and with remarkable ability. It's no surprise to me and nor is it a coincidence that over these past 5 years when there has been a situation, a moment where the game, the tournament, is on a knife edge it has always been Spain who have emerged victorious and that is a credit to this group of special players and a quite brilliant manager.

In the blazing Brazilian heat, the tropic humidity, tasked with breaking down and combating a very fit, organised and adventurous Italian side, Spain's endeavor and heart won through. It's nights like tonight, games like this one that have made this Spanish side the greatest national team that there has ever been and, for my money, the greatest there ever will be. They've overcome the legacy of a nation unsuccessful, the divides that have been the death knell of many a Spanish team, the skepticism that such a small side playing that short passing game could win tournaments, the controversies of implementing new ideas like playing tournament games without a striker, this group of Spanish players have shown tonight that not only are they the most technically gifted group of players ever assembled at international level, they can match mental fortitude with any of them.

Onto the final, there's no stopping La Roja now.

Spain were poor and the humid conditions are a factor, but so lucky to get through. I just could not see a goal for Italy in the 90 mins. Torres not good enough to start IMO. I hope Spain beat Brasil but advantage Brasil.

Confederations Cup is a bit of a joke so Italy won't feel too sore. Next year though its a different story.
