Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

They've played each other a few times since then (one unofficial game and another official in 1990 and another friendly in 1999).

Yes the 1990 was a friend though.

    Link

Official (at least FIFA) games not since 1986. I didnt know they were the 3rd lowest pairing game between world cup winners though!

Anyway can't wait now. Hopefully it will an interesting game.

I think Spain v Uruguay is another one, I think they must have played a total of 7 times.

Yes, on BBC1 or BBC3 for definite.
Its not until Sunday teatime though in case you are looking forlornly through tomorrows listings.

I fancy Brazil for this. Getting to the Final was the big pressure for them, so the shackles can come off now. Spain looked jaded the other night.

Spain looked jaded against Portugal and then Italy's 4-0 corking happened! I' wouldn't be writing them off. I think the conditions and home advantage will greatly favour Brazil but if Spain can recover from Thursday (a big ask) they should win.
Spain are still slight favourites here.

I predict Spain to win and Andersonisgod to annoy many over the course of Sunday evening. What price would I get on that accum?

I'm looking forward to the game tomorrow, it's the final most people wanted to see, particularly because it's been so long since both countries played each other and because they haven't yet played each other since Spain have achieved international success. I read an excellent article on The Guardian recently by Barney Ronay, explaining the differing football cultures of the two countries and the big contrast between both.

That being said, while I prefer the Spanish style, I'm an admirer of Brazil, as so many neutrals are. Hopefully it's a good game, no matter what it should be an interesting game with a couple of sub-plots to keep an eye out for.

Just to make it clear, you are shouting for Spain tomorrow?

I don't want to hear you raving about Neymar if Brazil win and he doesn't have an assist or goal. Actually I want to hear you nail your colours to the mast long before the game tbh.

Yes like any game they play in I will be supporting Spain, like I always do, I've never claimed otherwise.

I do appreciate Brazil, the football they play and they have some fantastic individuals. Thanks to ESPN mainly, I've seen this Brazil squad play so often and I've always enjoyed watching them play.

I do hope Spain win, like any fan hopes their team wins, but I also hope for, and expect, a high quality technical game and an interesting game between two differing football philosophies.

They played a game not so long ago in America and yes I was entirely impressed with Spain while not so much with Ireland. I don't put a lot of stock in national pride in the first place, imo supporting someone or something because they were born on the same land mass as you isn't something hugely important to me. To me it's the choices you make and philosophies you adopt that define you as a person, of course that's just my opinion and others may feel a strong sense of national pride and that's fine.

I've responded already, take from it what you like, however I won't be commenting on the topic again on this thread as, to the best of my knowledge, the Confederations Cup neither involves me, Ireland or who I choose to support.

Leaning towards a Spain victory, depends on if they've fully recovered from the Italy game though.

Cake, and grief counseling, will be available at the conclusion of the test

Cavani scores with a header but it's chalked off for offside.

Italy with a decent chance to double their lead soon after. Very entertaining game.
