Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Yeah, I don't see the difference between doing this and passing it around their back four + CM in their own half constantly is. Yet one is greeted vitriolically and booed while the other is deemed 'pure' football.

I know there's massive difference there skill wise, but from an entertainment point of view they're essentially the same thing.

There's a massive difference between holding the ball at the back four compared to the corner flag. The corner flag leaves your options completely limited. Space is ridiculously tight so the most probable outcomes are throw-ins, goal kicks, corners or free kicks. You can't really develop a play or create space other than a limited 50/50 cross into the box.

Out the field you have the chance to move the ball around, drag players out of position or put your own players into position so they can hurt the opposition. It's slow and it's methodical but playing the percentages you're far more likely to create a decent attack from the middle of pitch. Conversely, you're also far more vulnerable to a counter attack. Which could also be entertaining if it's performed efficiently.

Spain's game is percentage based. Everything they do is based on the probability of them denying a goal to the opposition e.g Zonal Marking set pieces, and creating a goal against the opposition e.g refusing the standard "English" 50/50 cross. if they were truly into creating boring football they'd be playing less high risk football. One wayward pass and their high defensive line is very vulnerable to the counter attack. Against France in the home group game of the WC qualifiers they were 1-0 up with no time left on the clock. They kept it in the midfield and tried to create an attack. France intercepted the move, counter attacked and scored with the second last touch of the game. The last being the kick-off restart.

Hit the referee in the build up. Conspiring against Tahiti.

Double deflection and an assist from the ref, bad start

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,086 ✭✭✭markc1184

Between bouncing off the ref and 2 deflections, it doesn't get more unlucky.

Where do they find these flipping refs...

In fairness to Tahiti, they're getting forward in numbers when they get the ball. Usually around seven of them moving up on breaks.

Completely insane, but what the hey. :D

Hope it doesn't go to double figures. Really feel bad for them. Should be the proudest moments of their lives but it can't really feel in anyway good to lose like that.

They'll exhaust themselves after 60 mins if they continue like that.

They are an amateur set-up so won't have the fitness.

Probably wish they were playing Ireland instead.

Their passing and movement on occasions is actually better than Ireland's. :(

    0-3 now.

Think we need an intervention to stop Tahiti from playing Spain.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,887 ✭✭✭✭klose

Of course they are poor and devoid of ideas george they probably all had to book off work at the factory to get over there to play

  • Moderators, Society & Culture Moderators Posts: 12,535 Mod ✭✭✭✭Amirani

Their defenders are basically standing on the half way line any time Nigeria have the ball, crazy ****ers.
