    Hi,

My new LG has the functionality to tune in UPC directly and I have the remote etc to control the + function

I've read that by not using the upc box and plugging into the TV directly i'll lose a ton of channels just wondering has anyone tried it?

    Thanks,
    J

UPC send various things down the cable. In most areas they send 17 analogue channels. These are not HD, and do not have 7 day guide. They may have old style teletext.

They also send lots of digital channels. Nearly every one of these are encrypted and can only be decoded by a UPC decoder with a valid card. Often RTE1 on this is not encrypted and if your TV has a DVB-C (cable) tuner you can see RTE1 but not the rest.

Any recording and 7 day guide features built into your TV are really only of use if you use an aerial for Saorview. Otherwise it's best to use UPC's box for recording and the guide etc.

If one remote is your aim, then there are various universal remotes that control the TV and the UPC box.

Thanks very much for the reply, exactly the info I was looking for. I'll stick with the box
