Business Information Systems CIT vs. UCC

Hi, sitting the Leaving Cert in short number of days.

I have my heart set on doing Business Information Systems, but I'm just not sure where to do the course.

I want to stay in Cork so I'll be going to either UCC or CIT. My problem is that I don't know where would it be better to do the course.

My Career's teacher in school said there's no difference between the courses, she just said that the points difference (UCC- roughly 420, CIT - 350) is down to the "snob-factor".

I also went to a Career Consultant outside of school, and she basically told me the same thing.

The thing I'm worried about is would going to CIT instead of UCC affect my opportunities in the future?

For example, if I was going up against a UCC Graduate, same course etc. , would he get the job over me? Due to the fact I went to CIT instead of UCC?

I've heard mixed opinion's from others, some say the course is better in CIT, whilst others tell me to go to UCC.

I would just like to know your opinions, where should I go?

Thanks for taking the time to read this, and I'd appreciate any advice.

I applied to both when filling out cao. I compared the two and not much difference the content might vary on areas they focus on. I didn't get enough points for ucc one but had got into cit one but went for a cert course in itt step by step similar to bis but do regret not doing the cit course despite hoping for ucc. The thing was I had no work placement in my course you at least have that option there in the bis courses which be an advantage. Though will say it be a lot of hard work if its anything like my degree having similar subjects to bis degrees just employers favour bis grads over my degree as its an arts rather than a business course. It's back to the drawing board for me after my hDip I finished college few years ago finding it hard to find work and getting pass interviews so another course with work placement is likely option or move to work. Very little jobs where I am unless it you experienced or it unpaid job.

I'd have liked ucc one but I prefer cit one looking at it now. Up too you. I didn't get much info from gc but they did help me about my choices.

I did go back to college was in ucc and was a good course in I.T. Ucc is a good place do go if you wanted to go there for further study. There is a bis masters in ucc and ism one nuig similar to my degree. Depends on career you want.

    Best of luck

The work placement in the CIT course makes it a better option in my opinion

Does ucc work placement not give you option to go to the states for it?
How you compare to cit work placement in similar courses?

Ya pity I didn't know 10 years ago what know now. How I'd love to start again but have to go from where I left off!

CIT also give you the option to go anywhere in the world. That doesn't depend on the college or university, it depends on the individual.
