Depending on age group and what drink youre after I'll start off and suggest Soho, they do grub and cocktails but neither are really cheap.

Long Island another cocktail bar, not cheap and is on the small side.

Depends what ye're after music/drink/location/late bar/clubbing and we might be able to help ya better, I've just posted the 2 cliche type of bars in the City Centre :)

Electric is a great spot - lovely restaurant upstairs or you could try their food boards downstairs for something lighter, they do great cocktails for 8e and it has an all round good vibe in my opinion but like previous poster said it all depends what you're looking for.

Another nice place is the woodford - can get pretty busy after 11 as it's a late bar but it's a good spot

Thanks a mill for your replies.
We will be staying on Western Road and we'll be looking for somewhere with a bit of craic.
No hi-diddley-ei music....... makes my ears bleed!!! :-P
Just somewhere with decent music - live bands if possible with late bar and decent beer!!

If you're looking for live bands and good beer. The pavilion or the crane lane would be ideal.

Small, snug, nice atmosphere: The Oval, Mutton Lane Inn, Sin É
Unrefined "old man's pubs": Coughlans, Castle Inn, Callanans Bar
Live music: The LV, Spailpín Fanach, Oliver Plunkett
Outdoors drinking: Franciscan Well, Tom Barrys, Fionnbarras
Meat Markets: Soho, Reardans, Old Oak
More modern bars with a nice vibe: The Roundy, Vicarstown Inn, The Pavilion
End of the night: Crane Lane, Bodega (get in before 11:30), Woodford

Some of those could be in a few categories, but you get the idea.

An often overlooked venue to start with is the cornstore they do good food, and they have some excellent bartenders who make up lovely cocktails for less than soho or longisland

Snug is one word for The Oval anyway!

Re Mutton Lane - I once saw a girl set her hair on fire in there because of the candles on the tables.

    Was she protesting against them?

Alcohol, flammable materials and naked flames. What could possibly go wrong?

    I assume she was ok?

Ya. It happened very quickly. A few of us seen it happen almost in slow motion, so we blew at it and one of her friends patted it out. She was doused in hairspray obviously as it caught from about 6 inches away. Crazy.
