Should I move to Vodafone?

I just got a call from a Vodafone Rep asking me if I would be interested in switching my broadband package over from Eircom.

At the moment I have a 2.5 meg connection with Eircom. I live out in the sticks so am happy enough with the speed though I would love to have a faster connection.

Anyway Vodafone are telling me that my line can handle 4.1 megs and that they would be able to promise me this speed if I sign up with them. I asked them what happens if my speed goes below this and the rep said they would send an engineer out. I suspect this is BS but that's what they said.

For the sake of a saving of €7 a month I am hesitant to switch over from a 2.5 meg stable speed to the promise of a 4.1meg speed. However if the speed was increased as promised I would be interested in switching.

Has anybody any success stories of switching to Vodafone recently?

You should check with Eircom if they can increase the speed. I'd say the 4.1Mb is the top the line can handle. If Eircom can increase the speed then no real need to change.

What are your line stats? They determine what your line is capable of.

Have a look here at some interesting information:

Also this page would suggest that you are at your max already (Just put in 58)

As I understand it, Eircom and Vodafone are using the same infrastructure so should be able to offer you the same speed on your line.

If you have Sky Digital, go for Sky broadband. They give their customers the best your line can handle for the same price. Whether you get 3 mb or 24 mb, it's all the same price.

Over the past week i had contact with both sales and tech departments in Eircom, sales telling me I should be able to get 5MB on my line and tech side telling me that my line can only handle 2, so I'd check with technical before listening to anything sales will tell you!
