Anyone know anything about a food fair thats on in salthill? Have been trying to find info on it but having no luck so far.

Very disappointing. Loads of cupcakes and questionable crafts. A few nice wooden carvings, but that was it. The market in Woodquay was miles better!

Flipping cupcakes. I am sick to the back teeth of cupcakes thrown in our faces for every occasion.

That's disappointing the market wasn't better though. Did many people show up to it?

Its supposed to be nicer weather tomorrow, might be better for water sports.

No helicopter display at Salthill as advertised,no one at Salthill to tell you anything about why it was not on and what happened, very very badly organised

Went ina and around town today to see what was going on with the Galway Sea festival. The promised great weather for the weekend didn't make an appearance unfortunately. The docks, sadly was dead. Walked out to Salthill then for the SAR demo, but that was cancelled as the helicopter had technical problems at Galway Airport. Hopefully tomorrow maybe a little better weatherwise. A few pictures from today.

So, just like a normal weekend in Galway then.

I wandered down to the docks at about 15:00 and their were three food stands left there, and absolutely nothing going on and nothing to be seen. I'd be pished if I was them.

I visited Salthill yesterday evening, very disappointed to see all cafes rushing to close their doors at 6pm!

I think this is ridiculous in a seaside resort on the busiest bank holiday of the summer.
Or maybe they don't need late evening business.

Got sorted at Lohan's though, extremely high standards there and always welcoming whether its just a coffee or full meal.

I did not want a meal at the time just a coffee and relax for a half an hour after a long drive.

Their off-license is good too. Good selection of interesting beers.

that seems a bit harsh. If it was pissing rain there would not have been a sole around. Plenty of pubs open after 6 that serve coffee if you need it.

Had a look in town on Saturday. Saw plenty of Flags and marketing material promoting this "festival" but sadly didn't come across anything of note. The docks were deserted on Saturday afternoon, felt sorry for the 5 or 6 stalls that had set up there, nothing on shop street or the Claddagh bar a kyak water polo game. Didn't venture out to Salthill, was there much happening out there?

There was nothing in Salthill water related, a few yachts out at the lighthouse a search and rescue demo with the Coastguard helicopter that never happened, no one there to say why or what is going on, the Docks was a disaster area as regards ships, in the lead up to this so called Sea Festival we were told the Navy would be open for the weekend along with the Celtic Explorer, the Navy left Friday night and the Celtic Explorer the following morning leaving the docks like a ghost town, I dont know who organised this but it was a shi.. event. The water polo is on every June bank holiday so nothing new there, very very poor show :mad::mad:

I don't know where that expectation came from, the printed programme clearly shows tours of the Aoife on Friday only.

Seems to me that the "Sea Festival" is a bit like the Galway Sessions - primarily about marketing what we already have, rather than anything new.

I said the that when it was launched a while back they said Navy ships would be in the docks and open to the public along with Celtic Explorer, do you think the people who took the food stands at the docks would have taken them if they knew there would be no ships there. I am sure they lost a packet, I passed a number of times over the weekend and there was only four or five there at the stands, furthermore it was launched as a new Maritime Festival.

Without wanting to sound as though I'm knocking the organisers, I think it was a case of too little spread over too larger an area. There were events spread from town and the docks to Rusheen bay. This is the first Galway Sea Festival and hopefully not the last, but maybe keep it more compact around town and the docks and build from there. I think for a sea festival the docks was totally under used. This will never be a VOR but has the potential to be a nice little festival.
