Hi, I was just wondering how long the journey (by car) is from Thurles to Limerick city?

The R503 seems the most direct route, is there an alternative route people use for whatever reason?

    Thanks.

Id go via Borrisoleigh and onto the M7 - the other road is terrible. Allow about 45mins. Probably allow 1 hour the other way.

The AA recommended route is via Borrisoleigh, and (very bad road to Nenagh) you pick up M7 at Nenagh, allow an hour and keep in mind there will be match traffic on the roads on Sunday 2nd. and 9th. June, and maybe on other days during the summer.

It's all about giving yourself enough time and there is lots of lovely scenery to be admired on this route if you are having a relaxed journey.

The journey over the hills via Newport is 9 miles shorter than heading by the motorway according to AA route planner. The R503 road isn't as bad as some people make out, the only problem is that if you get stuck behind a tractor/slow moving vehicle there are very few spots to overtake safely. But it would be a fairly quite road. On the other route there are a few twisty stretches between Borrisoleigh and Nenagh but it's plain sailing once you get on the motorway. Do you plan to commute regularly or are you planning for a once-off journey?
