Anyone ever put a bike rack on a caravan?

I know they are fairly standard on campervans but cant recall seeing one on a caravan. The rear of the caravan has no window but I'm not sure there are any mounting points either.

Is there any neat & secure way of doing it? If it was awkward/risky I probably wouldnt bother and just secure the bikes inside the caravan with those elastic yokes with hooks (the name escapes me).

    Any thoughts?

    Bungee cords.

Can't recall seeing a bike rack on a caravan - only on the car towing a caravan tbh.

Most caravans are made of cardboard...better put it in it rather than on it. You'll have a hard time finding anywhere sturdy enough to bolt a rack to.

They usually mount on the tow bar.

Are they much different to the habitation end of a coachbuilt? Genuine question, as I always assumed they were much the same construction!

I've no idea about a coach build.
Myself and a mate broke a caravan with crowbars and sledges in about 90 mins. for a trailer chassis.
It was all thin pine, staples and light tin down to the floor.

Some continental caravans do have rear walls which are designed to take bike carriers, but I have never seen a UK model with one fitted and I suspect they are not built to take one.

I had a series of caravans over a 25 year period before I changed to a motorhome and never came across a UK which took a bike rack

On a related note, anyone ever seen one of those Fiamma canopies attached to the side of a caravan? In principle they should work, but again I suppose its a matter of getting sufficent "grounds" to attach it on.

Maybe there's a hook system whereby you could click it on when you arrive - I know the motorhome home seem to be permanently fixed on, but if there were concerns about the rigidity of the caravan then hooking on at arrival would mean less wear and tear on the body of the caravan.

We have an awaning but unless staying for a good few days its barely worth it - current bigger caravan has seating space without having to move beds so can manage fairly well without it.

    .

Sounds to me like you just need a eyeleted tarpaulin, two legs, bungees, screw/bolt eyelets, maybe a receiving plate and guy ropes. Most decent DIY stores would have the lot for a fraction of the price of an awning.

Found an old fiamma catalogue - they have bike rack options. I am sure they're on line but attached is a photo!

I saw caravans with roll out awnings this weekend when we were away - it'd depend on whether your van can take it, so you'd have to go to a specialist. I am surprised there's not simple canopy options that use the awning rail to be honest. Try the UK sites, maybe?
