A friend just arrived from there about an hour ago and described about 50-100 youths in two groups(Irish and Africans) pelting each other with bottles with the Garda helicopter overhead and squad cars around which didn't intervene yet.(probably waiting on the Public Order Unit)

The beach was packed but many people(women and children) had to flee in fear at the drink fuelled violence and all headed away from the beach to get away. Asking onlookers he said some people said the trouble was organised on Facebook!

Gardaí are trying to bring order to the Dublin seaside resort of Portmarnock this evening, after crowds of young people arrived at the town's beach to take advantage of the good weather.

A spokesperson said that there is an issue with public order in the area.

Reports from people in the area suggest the garda helicopter and a large number of squad cars have been dispatched.

Meanwhile, Irish Rail has confirmed that its 16.14 Drogheda to Pearse service had to stop at Portmarnock because a group of young people on board the train were causing problems for the driver, and other passengers.

A press officer said that the youths were drinking and running amok - Irish Rail's security team contacted the gardaí, who attended and removed the offenders. The train was delayed for 10 minutes.

Portmarnock is North County Dublin, and there's already a thread there. Closed.
