They bought that site about five years ago, and recent re-erected the sign, which blew down in the winters storms. But I do not think they ever got planning permission (but I could be wrong)...

Aldi was closed for two days whilst it was finished off. They did not even give out 'sorry we are closed' money off vouchers - how cheeky
I'd wager that Aldi is now busier than Dunnes across the way

Very surprised this evening to find that Aldi Westside appears to be exactly the same as it always was, no extension evident at all. The former Boston store looks to be empty and in darkness.

Aldi in Westside is going to be closed from 10 August to 28 August. I presume that is when they are going to finish everything off.

There is a big poster inside the store stating this closure.

The reason Boston looks empty and in darkness is because they bricked up the windows from the inside.

There's also fit-out work going on at the opposite end of the building. Don't know what's happening there, might just be re-config for the existing tenants.

    Thanks. Thats the one allright.

Re the fisherman its good to see a unit which was long term vacant finally getting a tenant.

I'd give it a while before trying it if I were you. I did try it this week and it wasn't what I was hoping for, not by a long shot. The menu is very short, 4 starters, 4 mains - fish and chips, steak, beef burger, chicken burger. The "Seafood Bar" element of this restaurant is sadly lacking. I am very much hoping that this is temporary as, according to a radio interview with the owner that I heard last weekend, they don't have a head chef yet and have opened with sous chefs only. So hopefully they will have a more imaginative menu when they do recruit a head chef. I will hold off on returning until then.

its not the galway advertiser page but the Alway Gadvertiser.
its a funny enough page with the same looking profile picture that post funny/silly stories and catch people out thinking its the galway advertiser.

Oh ok, so they're just 'pretending' that Starbucks are opening in Galway for 'comedy purposes'? Hilarious.

My money's on a bait and switch like-farming operation. Pretend a Starbucks is opening, offer amazing prize for like and sharing, harvest likes, change the page name to whatever pissant operation you like, hail yourselves as a digital marketing genius, take a victory sip from your 5 quid coffee themed milk drink.

Once a page has over a couple hundred likes the name cannot be changed

Mmm, nice strategy. Must add it to my toolkit.

(Maybe we could have a capacity crowd at my choir's concerts if I pretended that Garth Brooks was playing :-) )

    "The fisherman" Salthill prom

Tried this place out on Sunday and the food was great!!! We did have problems with the service (lost our order!). but once we'd pointed out we hadn't had our drink order served this was soon remedied along with a complementary mini seafood chowder. i think the owner (husband & wife) was on site and looked to get in the way of front of house management and the kitchen (think it was the owner!!). over all i'd definitely go back as i think the service problem can easily be fixed and the food was extremely fresh and expertly cooked.
