Bought some dvds in the new shop in the Eyre Square shopping centre. It seems to have a good broad selection.

    Place is called Head.
Looks like they have interesting taste.
Was surprised to see the Saints box set All Times Through Paradise in there last week since I wasn't sure abnybody else would know about that.
    Jazz section is interesting too.

So wondering what buying selection process is.
Looks pretty eclectic. So hope that's the way it continues and can sustain that way.

We were in the downstairs part Sunday. Wife had a look at the meun for the upstairs restaurant on the way out and mentioned that they open late in the evening. Think she said 10pm?!?

The menu looks the same too as the old Woodquay spot. Food was lovely btw, we will be back to sample the upstairs offerings.

So Papa Rich have two restaurants in Born, one upstairs in the evenings and one downstairs for daytime? Sorry if I've completely misunderstood! :o

Don't worry, you're not the only one.
I leave town for a few months and suddenly Papa Rich's and deep fried pizzas start popping up all over the plaice (see what I done there).
Think it's time I popped back to restore the equilibrium.

    Yes.

Upstairs menu is similar to the original. Downstairs is classic trendy cafe stuff.

Ate in the upstairs part of Bornpa Rich again last night. So busy that they had to sit us beside two ladies also out for dinner, albeit with the tables separated about 2 feet. Food was great, service was good despite busyness. Still blown away by that view of the water and cathedral!

Was in there for the first time yesterday and was impressed by the diversity of the selection. Nice to have a music shop to browse around in again. Chatting to the guy at the checkout, he said they're open three weeks now and are happy to order in albums that people want but can't find in the shop.

Ya two restaurants with two different menus. Both were open at the same time on Sunday when we were in there around 1pm.

But I'd imagine the downstairs one probably closes in the evenings. Its more of a cafe style spot whereas the upstairs is basically the same as the one that was open in Woodquay.

City planners have given the go ahead for a new restaurant in the city centre.

Steve and Lorna Mayve are to convert a ground floor butcher shop at 4 Henry Street to a restaurant.

The project will involve alterations to the facade of the commercial premises.

Permission’s been granted with 10 conditions attached, one of which stipulates that the eatery can only operate between 10am and 10pm Monday to Saturday.

That site's been vacant for a LONG time. Good to see something going into it.

What sort of bull is that? It's in an area with many bars and is 50 yards from a casino and a lap dancing club...

Is that a common condition attached to new restaurants in the city?

If you want to go out in Galway and not be in bed at the same times as the kids, going on the p*** is just about the only option.

I read in a local paper recently that they (people in charge) were considering getting all the chippers, eateries etc to close early to encourage people to go home after the pub instead of hanging around creating bother. So maybe these conditions is a start of that idea.

Does anyone know why 'Kettle of Fish' closed?

Because they were poorly run most likely, had a pretty permanent staff wanted sign and there was always an air of bad atmosphere in there.

    .

    Nope.

The bars are in Dominic st.

This is in Henry st. Henry st is residential. 10pm closing is pretty normal for residential areas.

Fair enough about residential, but Bierhaus is on Henry street, 2 doors down.

Anyone else hear that McHughs Pub/Restaurant out in Castlegar (near Corinthians) has closed down? Would be a shame if so, often used to go there for lunch but hadn't been in a while.

That building will be called Papa Rich soon instead of Born.

Sad that they closed. They fed many students down the years. I was in to them last year and they knew the writing was on the wall but they were good butchers.

FYI they closed due to retirement. The owner was mid/late sixties and the other guy was no spring chicken either. They had a note of thanks for the loyalty of their customer in the Tribune prior to closing. I'm sure if the business was better they could have sold as a going concern but obviously more value in other businesses these days.

Planners have given the green light for a new hotel at the former Shannon Dry Cleaners site at Bohermore.

Highgate Properties will develop the hotel across number 80 Prospect Hill, and numbers 82, 84, and 86 Bohermore, and on part of the former railway tunnel.

It will involve the demolition of the existing single-storey commercial building at No. 80 Prospect Hill as well as the demolition of the existing two-storey dwelling at No. 84 Bohermore.

The existing part-single, part two-storey rear extension to No. 86 Bohermore, which is a protected structure, will also be demolished.

The new hotel will have over 130 bedrooms.

Planning permission’s been granted with 24 conditions attached.

One stipulates that bilingual signage should be used at the hotel.

It's to be a sandwich bar.

They were granted planning permission back in Jan/Feb but Centra next door appealed it on the grounds of insufficient parking for deliveries etc.. Meanwhile Centra refurbished their own sandwich bar. redface.png Centra themselves have insufficience parking with deliveries and customers blocking up the area! The appeal was to be decided on at the end of July so they must have received the green light.

Happily pay a little extra for a nice quality sandwich in comparison to whats on offer in the area already.

Walking past yes, I saw a poster over some shelves saying Blu-ray, so I think they do.
