Why "tips" fail

    Guys,

I notice that the most frequently used thread here is the "tips" thread.

Just want to give a few of you punters a little advice when betting.

I love to bet, and used to always follow tips and insider info but its impossible to win in the long run. Here's a couple of reasons why.

    - Price - You never get the best price. Usually by the time you've received the tip, the value is gone. If, for every tip you got you took the best possible price then maybe you could make money but unfortunately thats not the case. You will be taking a shorter price pretty much every time.

    - Competition - Getting good info from a stable saying "this horse will win" is all well and good but that stable may not know the other horses that well. Particularly in maidens and any other unexposed races. The horse could run a blinder but just find one or two too good. You should know that "owners" of horses are the worst punters. Thye think they're horse is ready to win and back it but it runs a place. They've no idea of the level of competiton.

The best way to make money punting guys is to bet selectively and wisely.

Anyway hope this helps someone somewhere.

I think he means bet at the right price, and avoid herd mentality. Thats usually the downfall of punters.
