Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Nice to see hoolahan start, cox on the wing though bleugh.

Should win this easily in any case :)

This might be the most enjoyable Ireland match in a long while.

Looks like we are going to have a go.

Not too concerned about Cox. Himself, Hoolahan & Keane linked well on Sunday.

Reading the name of the thread, I thought it was a friendly vs Egypt and I somehow missed that news. :(

I still think putting Cox on the wing is like throwing him to the Dogs.

It shouldn't make any difference tomorrow obviously.

    Wes better not disappoint!

1-0 a late own goal gives us the win ;)

    4-0.

    28-25

    It'll be a close one!

Trap will play a revolutionary 0-5-5 called the "score more than you" formation.

Early goal settle us down and we'll go on to win by 3 or 4.

Early goal is crucial. Get it and it could be 4 or 5. If not then I can only see us putting 2 past them.

Is Shane Long on the bench or injured? (just read somewhere that he's suspended)

Just tried to get the line up including subs & kick off time on Irish Times & Indo and no sign of it.

So went onto the FAI site, which is redirecting to Ticketmaster page for Celtic v Liverpool. The day of an Irish soccer international and you cant get onto the Irish FA site. Genius stuff.

Tbh I think it's a little optimistic to think we can overhaul the goal difference at this stage. We're -1. Sweden +3 with a game in hand including Faroes at home, Austria +9 and still have Faroes to play too. Ambitious to say the least.

    Well lads,

Today’s the day. It’s the Big One, the Main Event, the Pay-per-View, The Box Office, The Smash Hit, The Up the Ra, How’s your Ma, The end of an Era, The Beginning of a new one, The young lads become prominent men, as the older heads head for twilight, Bang the drum, Blow your whistle, Tell DJ Alligator to stick it up his arse, The crowd’s electric, Singing section in full swing, Bodhrans going 90, How’s he ref, Big switch, Take McGeady off…..he’s playing sh1t, Give it to Keane, Where’s Doyle, Trap’s lost the plot, Can’t keep the ball, Last minute goal, Dunphy’s a dope, The Cat’s in the bag, It can only be one thing, It’s Ireland, It's The Faroes, it’s match day, and it’s LIVE.

    COYBIG

(Every Ireland match should have that same Italia 90, USA 94, Japan/S,Korea 02 feeling)

I presume it's head to head goal difference & results that make a difference in a level points situation and not straight up goal difference?

Is McCarthy injured or suspended or did I misread the team sheet?

I thought the same thing but was corrected on here after the last set of qualifiers. Rules were changed before this qualification campaign.

Surprisingly quiet thread considering the importance of the game.

Austria - Sweden game is key to us too.

Keep calm and pass Hoolahan the ball.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,879 ✭✭✭The_B_Man

Georgia are ranked 96, Faroes are ranked 162.
I think its safe to say we'll win this.

The issue is how much we'll make up for the Germany goals!

Assuming the Faroes finish last, goal difference accrued against them won't count.

Ideal scenario in Austria Sweden game is a draw I guess!

Meh I'd rather watch a five a side down the park than this game.

It's time these minnows were given there own competition and get a chance to win some games instead of being thrashed 5 times a year

They had the lead against Sweden for most of the match only to concede to late goals a few months back. In the previous qualification campaign they were only narrowly defeated 1-0 by Italy. They beat Estonia and drew with Northern Ireland in their last qualification. Before that they nicked a draw from Austria and beat Lithuania. It's not like they're San Marino and have lost something like 60 consecutive games.

Would I be right in thinking that an Austrian win would benefit us more? As the Swedes have Germany @ home in the last qualifier and they will be home and hosed by then and might not play with the same application as they would if there qualification hopes were in the balance.

I can safely say this is the first Ireland home match I have worn shorts to. Great day for a game and a few pints after.

I think an austrian win would suit us best,a win for Sweden would put them out of reach possibly.
