Hey, I've been in Perth just over a month now. Are there any nice walks around the city? I've been up Kings Park a few times but want to go somewhere different for the weekend! Don't have a car though!

    Cheers.

If you've done Kings Park there's not too much else around the city unless you walk around the river to the south foreshore, that's quite nice. Or just be lazy and get the ferry across before you start walking!

Catch the train to Freo and do a lap around there, great atmosphere about the place on a Saturday or Sunday.

Head down to freo and soak up the atmosphere grab a coffee or glass of wine on the strip and watch the world go by. Wish I was back there myself. If you want to see some amazing spots on the west coast get yourself a car you'll need it. Turquoise bay up north is a must see.

Get the ferry to Rothnest Island. The ferry ticket is expensive but it's well worth it, Rothnest is lovely!

I believe one of the ferries to Rottnest is half price on a tuesday.

A good walk is to catch a bus to City beach, then walk the shoreline down to Cottesloe.

I really miss a variety in landscape, I was used to hopping in the car and deciding which hill range to walk. Here it's just a low lying ridge that just boring. We might get another year of making money out this place but after that I'm looking forward to a change of scenery.

A friend of mine living over there describes it as a place with no substance and is getting the cash together go live in Europe somewhere, he said that he won't go back to Ireland but doesn't want to live there either. I dont know, it seems like there is a lot more to do just in Perth than there is to do in Ireland.

I'd put it this way, if I were in my 20s and up to career chasing then Perth would be great. I'm in my 40s and the place while easy to live in just bores the hole off me and believe me it's not from want of trying. I went to events, joined interest groups etc but it just lacks critical mass, plus there's too many people like myself who came here for the money; it's too transitory. It's a great city if you're into sports and at a different time in my life I could have settled here easily. I won't regret coming here but I just don't feel the love, work may be pulling me east soon but I will miss the easy access to the beach and great weather, todays squalls not counting.

I found this to be true of the nightlife, i went out to northbridge one night for a workers leaving do on a Friday night and there was about eight people in the bar four of them from our party. I asked them was there many in the casino they said about the same, couldn't believe it

Where in Northbridge? The hot spots in and around Aberdeen St are packed every Friday and Saturday night.

I understand why people think Perth is a bit duller than the likes of Melbourne and Sydney but there's a lot of exaggeration about it as well. It's not *that* bad.

It was the dean on Aberdeen St, i know i've had better nights and thinking about it now, it was the middle of winter and you know the Aussies go running for the heaters once it hits 17 degrees :pac::pac:

Catbears comment can be looked at in its own context. Perth is knows as dullsville i just googled it and Perth was the 6th result with the first five being definitions of the word "dullsville".

    See >>>>>> https://www.google.ie/search?q=Dullsville&ie=utf-8&oe=utf-8&aq=t&rls=org.mozilla:en-US:official&client=firefox-a&channel=rcs

By the way my favorite part of that article is

Besides talking about the weather, Perth residents are also very passionate about daylight savings. The debate over daylight savings has polarized the state of Western Australia for decades, much like how the debate over abortion has polarized the United States. Several referendums were held, each resulting in a firm “against”. The last referendum was held in 2009, with 46% voting yes and 54% voting no, and as a result daylight savings will not be implemented.
A three-year trial period for daylight savings was held prior to the 2009 referendum, and this resulted in vocal protests by anti-daylight savings groups. The government were likened to Nazis and Communists, much like how in Germany and Russia, totalitarian governments who committed mass genocide were likened to Nazis and Communists. Many Perth residents believe that daylight savings is a slippery slope to socialism, will cause skin cancer, and will cause curtains to fade and somehow confuse the cows.

I was there with work recently, and spent the Saturday around Freo. Lovely area, and you should definitely go to the Little Creatures brewery. Lovely food, and fantastic beer.

In all seriousness tho i was thinking about joining a gun club when i get over there that and doing some water based activities learning how to swim and then try my hand at a bit of surfing, which is WAY harder than it looks.
