I would be in favour of the occupy movement if I thought they could get more justice and rights for the ordinary Joe. (Im Joe and I'm ordinary). The problem is I don't understand what the occupy movement was all about. I know thats a bit lazy of me not to have researched it. Yara you started this thread so would it be too much of a burden to just outline what exactly this movement is about. I think there are many fair minded people on boards who may just come on board with ye or support in whatever way the can if they thought that what ye are doing is worthwhile and could bring about some change. If you want to change the system, should you not be using your intelligence and charm to get as many people involved by telling us what it is all about. By being vague and defensive you are probably re-enforcing the belief that ye are an in-effective rag bunch who don't have a chance in hell changing our lives for the better.

The pms bit of that sounds like a regular occurrence for you.
Are you saying it didn't happen, or if it did happen it isn't assault?
Better question would be why would I expect a coherent answer...

If there's no banks how do you get your money to have only €100 left at the end of the month? Without banks businesses can't function, therefore there's no jobs and we'll be in a bigger mess than now.
Sorry, but you made up the "no banks" bit which I didn't say so it's not really a valid question anymore. So I'll pass.
Not all banks needed to be propped up by public money as they weren't all money grabbing ineptly run basket cased.

Of course it would not have been, but probably the bus that would have got her to where she wanted to be by the time she wanted to get their...which makes perfect sense to me

Side note: chill the antagonistic posting style, there's no need for it and we've already had on thread warnings about maintaining civility.

Tis about 36 hours since the thread started and as of yet he/she hasnt answered a single question despite many polite requests. All they are doing is exposing their childish attitude and antagonism towards anyone with an opposing view.

Last one that would get me to where i needed to be at 3pm.

Maybe you think its ok to turn up late for stuff. I just think it's rude.

That's par on course for all those involved in Occupy Galway. Any time I challenged any of their ideals or beliefs I was greeted with abuse and intimidation. They are unable to debate or engage in discussion, you either agree with their ideology (which changes drastically from individual to individual) or you are the enemy.

I must say my experience is similar. Did you also have that weird interaction where you agreed with them, but because you didn't agree with them enough, you were also the enemy? I found most that I spoke to held absolutist positions of one sort or another. Not conducive to the debate they claimed to promote.

They where worried about a bank falling bringing the whole house of cards down. Where do you think the banks giving out the dodgy loans got the money? Look what happened when Lehman Brothers was let go, it started the whole collapse and it's been admitted that it should have been saved.

If that young man doesn't get his porn I'll be setting my tent up on (no) Prospect Hill.

I used to be 100% for Occupy, but to be honest the postings on boards from Occupy members in various threads has turned me away from them.
Arrogance and passive-aggressiveness doesn't suit a leftist movement that is supposed to save us all.

They got the money from the ECB. So? It was none of the public's business until all the major parties decided to guarantee our banks.
Who admitted Lehman's should have been saved? Saved how? Where were the US going to borrow the money from to prop them up?

If we hadn't guaranteed private bank deposits we wouldn't be borrowing at the rate we are now either. Do you think our level of debt has gone up or down overall after taking €100 billion to pay off private banking sector debts?

Lets at least get the figures correct if we're going to go down that road..

    Be my guest.
Oh, you're just going to say something's wrong but make no attempt to say why? You sound like you know the real number but don't want to tell us for some reason?
    http://www.rte.ie/news/2010/1128/294894-economy/
€85 billion according to that. Close enough?

  • Registered Users Posts: 5,159 ✭✭✭mrkiscool2

Guys, arguing with lefties is like playing Chess with a pigeon... It doesn't matter how well you play, the pigeon will knock over the pieces, jump around the board and sh1t all over the place, including on your moves... Basically, they have nothing but trying to make you look as stupid as they actually are.

They have no grasp of economics, no clear vision for Ireland, no solutions to our problem. But it's pointless in arguing, because they will say you "Are supporting the system" "blind" "ignorant" or "a traitor to the 99%"

How much of that was for banks, and how much was for everything else? I'm sure if you bothered to read the article you could tell me ;)

If anything, that article reinforces my point that only through saving the banks have we been able to maintain our massive borrowing in order to fund our day to day spending for the last few years..

Your no great loss, friends like you...
the last thread you ring fenced your mates from moderation when they threatened violence to person and property of OCG, you are also patently the most passive aggressive poster on this forum.

Way to stay on point and the issue, another Occupy deflector of questions joins the car crash.

No offence Shakti but that's bullcrap, I wouldn't let people get away with calling OG "crusties", "smellies" etc? I also banned a person that wanted to burn down the camp, hope that was ok with you.

The country needs movements like this instead of people sitting in the pubs complaining about everything but having no guts to do anything themselves.

Every thread on OG bring a lot of crap into this forum - but instead of taking the easy way out and stop them I have let them run knowing it would infect the forum with bad mojo and mean a lot more work for me.
Eventually every single thread has been beaten to **** by both sides, spiralled into mudslinging and petty personal abuse and then locked, only for everything to repeat itself in the next thread.

Btw, don't question moderation on thread. There is a feedback forum for that.

tis about 20 months since the whole occupy movement kicked off in Galway city centre on Oct 16th 2011 and as yet you and many others still need to be told what the movement was about??

Yara, please address the concerns of the other posters. After all it's in your interest to win people over to the OG side, is it not?
