Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Thankfully the France game and the Lions game won't interfere with crazy beachtime fun with my kids in the sunshine.

So does that mean the Wales match won't be on TV in Ireland?

Forgot the English match. Was planning watch all the others napping between head out, get back home watch the Ireland match, fall asleep, sleep until 8:00 Monday morning.

If you have Sky, BBC Wales should be on the "Other Channels" section

Japan might give Wales a decent enough game, given virtually the whole Welsh 1st 15 is on Lions duty. Scotland v Samoa might be close, but SA should smash Italy I would have thought. Argentina v Eng might be interesting, given it's in Argentina, Argentina have even gone as far as resting 20 players for the 4N, they seem to be developing a bit of depth.

I'd assume Ireland, even without the Lions recruits, should easily account for the Eagles.

    15mins in, 3-0 to Japan.

Very impressed by the accuracy and ferocity of the Japanese defense!!

In the words of the commentator; "Sore wa BIGU HITO desu ne O:!"

Uncharacteristically theyve made a couple of error with ball in hand.

6-0, 20mins in. Wales given a yellow in front of their line for obstructing.

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,973 ✭✭✭19543261

6-6. Japan being penalised just about every way in the scrum. Major weakness atm. Some fantastic turnovers and breakdown work.

WOoo! Try off a 5m lineout! Lovely dummy, 2 on 1. Conversion missed.

Half time, 11-6. Wales looking impotent in attack. Love to see some stats, been at least 4 turnovers for Japan so far.

Yea was right, 4 turnovers. 4 handling errors each.

Japan missing a penalty. Still 11-6. Wales botching up a sure try, was 2 on one.

11-9. Absolutely bizarre call from the ref, saying 6 was off his feet???

Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhh cant believe it, their kicker is 2/5 now, not particularly difficult ones either.

God dammit. 12-11 to Wales. Ref saying 6 was going off his feet then getting up to compete at ruck; coudl just be my half open eyes, but I wasnt seen any of that.

    20-19.

    edit: what. 19-18

    wales lucky imo

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,973 ✭✭✭19543261

    Game over. 22-18.

Japans kicker losing it for them, lost out on 9 points. Disappointing. Japans defense looked very solid the whole match; they seemed to be opting to kick for territory to force penalties but their kicker was a messer and they looked threatening with ball in hand so no idea what the game plan was.

Some good stuff from Japan though, maybe just lacking that edge needed. Probably their best chance blown though but who knows

Do the games this weekend count for IRB ranking points? Or because of the Lions series, is that not the case? Did the Highlanders Tanaka play scrumhalf for Japan - if so, any good?

Yeah was quite good, as usual.

Not sure about ranking points but these two are playing for the Raeburn Shield.

Thanks to the OP. We now have rugby on for the day (with Disney Junior on in the other room of course!). Forget the bbq!

Manu Samoa over for an early try. Hopefully they can win both games and have a game against the boks.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,249 ✭✭✭Stev_o

Two tries so far for Samoa. They v only played Scotland 8 times absolutely shocking.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 8,207 ✭✭✭decisions

I hope Scotland can make a game of it.

Both Samoa tries have come from good running rugby.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,599 ✭✭✭matthew8

Samoa really should have scored another try. Are there bonus points in this tournament? If so a SA-Samoa final may well be pre-determined after week 1.

He doesn't really play for Samoa in the Summer to be honest.

Why is this match in such a huge stadium, masses of empty seats.

I think it's a double header, SA vs Italy will be in the same ground.

I'm not sure but the USA Rugby website has its own live streaming section so it might be on there.

Le Roux starting, hopefully he'll star. Hopeful about Engelbrecht too. No idea why he's starting Vermaak though. Wouldn't start Strauss either, would opt for Ralepelle or even Maku from what I've seen.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,599 ✭✭✭matthew8

Italy not at the races so far. Bullboks 13-0 up in usuak style, 2 penalties and a maul try for Strauss.

A break from Habana sets up another try.

    20-0

Yep and then Habana just cut through them like that.

  • Registered Users Posts: 24,258 ✭✭✭✭Buer

Harsh on Italy. Habana cruises in from 40m on turnover ball. Ball popped back on the SA side very suspiciously. Italy have had literally about 60% possession and 75% territory this half.

And now looks like they might have another! TMO.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,599 ✭✭✭matthew8

    Engelbrecht butchered a try there.

That's the fundamental issue with Italian rugby writ-large isn't it. You could say that of most games they play. Until they get a decent set of half backs and a talented centre pairing they can have all the bleedin' ball they like!!
