Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

I'd prefer the older ones tbh even at the same money.
I remember last year a white LS430 went for auction and sold at around 1k and I thouight that was expensive.
    They are going up!

This was posted up at the top of the page about 4 weeks ago.

Got an NCT on Tuesday last until next May and has a price drop of €350 to €4650. Very few takers with a tax bill of €1800, or €2,000 if you pay in installments.

These could hit 100 km/h in under 5.5s when new.

With the hybrid sub €300 a year motor tax stuff I fear they will never be cheap.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 51,297 ✭✭✭✭bazz26

I'd doubt your typical hybrid buyer would be in the market for that type of car though.

Say the IS300h and GS300h, both cheap tax and circa 40k new, I can never see these going at their current 10 year old petrol model value of €4k/€5k, I'd see them as double that at 10 years old.

Beautiful car, but you'd need to be a real enthusiast to buy it.

Near 2k a year in tax, near 1k in tyres, maybe 25mpg if you're lucky.

Plus it'll cost more than it's worth to fix if anything happens.

You'd want to run a sniffer dog through that one before you commit...just to make sure the real one doesn't find anything next time you're stopped...as you will be, countless times, in a yoke like that :D

These are almost impossible to insure atm.

damn I was hoping to get one of these in the future when the missus got off her hole and learnt how to drive.
Say what you will about Bangle but his designs even as far back from 1999 (the e63 was based on his design of the bmw z9) and the e60 msport all still look fantastic today and will for many decades I imagine.
Still another 6 years and you could get classic insurance on it?

Traditionally big engined coupes have always been the more sought after classics. I'm not really a fan of the 6er styling but due to a combination of high tax and insurance costs you can pick them up for small beans now. If you've got the spare gold and space it'd be a good time to pick one up and put it in to storage.

Id love one, they're stunning and an absolute beast to drive.
There was one doing the gumball rally this weekend and it didn't look much out of place.

Autoline might insure a 2004 6 series next year when it turns 15 years old. They insure a 15 year old 3 series cabriolet for my parents currently

As a matter of interest, why don't insurance companies cover these cars?

Because collectively they have deem cars over a certain age to be old and unsafe. We have become a disposable society.

Too old, too powerful, too expensive to fix.

Insurance would be happy if we were all driving 1 litre Kias.

Then they would still load premium due to poorer occupant safety.

Its all a scam. Ive seen a friend try to ensure an 02 passat. No go. Someone else insuring a brand new passat - big increase over previous 3 year old passat due to cars value. You cannot win. Anything you gain in terms of reduced accidents with city breaking and all these functions, you lose again in terms of cost of repair as far as insurers see it.

Theyd have you believe its all data driven and analytics and super intelligence behind their pricing, when the only real strategy they use is to rip the customer off. They are completely full of ****, and I worked for one for 14+ years so I know the 'quality' of individual running these places.

Likewise, that is a beaut. Tax though - yeouch.

Boot lid has a dent in it too. (Trying to find reasons not to buy it)

I've always wanted one of those.

    .

Looks like the drivers seat is falling apart as well. But I suspect thats something to hammer the price down rather than to walk away from.

Colour is a bit too wishy-washy for me, but otherwise they're lovely.

The "Mechanically sound" bit in the advert would worry me, sounds like there is something else up with it... Do they rust?

    has an NCT anyway.

I do like the colour I must admit.

As far as I know this had the nikasill plating and should be changed by now, somebody with more knowledge about this issue can correct me.

As for the colour, I dont like that one, I prefer the dark green or dark navy one, but if I wanted a 4l v8 XK8 convertible I wouldn't be too picky, I could live with it!

Am I right in thinking that anything that's reached 151 k is highly unlikely to have the issue - due to it happening at much lower mileages.

interior is worn to bits , id say it might need an aircon regass / heater matrix change or something electrical doesn't work.

    Does this saab qualify?
Lovely car, not sure if it's cheap at this price but looks reasonable to me.

I've a saab 9-3 and I wouldn't class it as a LUXObarge. Lovely cars but not the level of standard of a 7 series BMW or A8.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 51,297 ✭✭✭✭bazz26

A Saab 9-3 isn't a luxobarge. Even the bigger 9-5 wouldn't be considered one. When you think luxobarge think Mercedes S Class.
