Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

11 months test and about €200 worth of tax on this Phaeton. I've driven them a few times and they are a fine bus if you can see beyond the badge. Not sure how complicated that seat repair is, worth checking up on first. Not the best pics and I don't personally like the wheels, but it's only €3900.

the broken seat is the front left which for a car that primarily sold in LHD is great as likely a lot more common a part, probably just the switches broken , seat adjustment is just a few motors anyway, nothing super expensive to break anyway.

Them Phateons look very simillar to the new vw Arteon's wonder is there any connection or just luxo looks.

    Ultimate waft-mobile imho!
But the tax.... I'm going to assume that the 230mg of CO2 is going to make a post 2008 model astronomical to tax.

    €2350 p/a

There's 3.2km of wiring in Phaeton!

Yes. i insure a 2006 RX 400 no bother, they are actually cheap enough to insure thanks to a low accident class. Boy racers stay away from them so that helps.

The LS has only a couple of weeks NCT, so beware.

Looks clean, taxed as a PSV and short NCT though. Might not bother some people.

So does a Q7 qualify as a Luxobarge? At just over 5.0m or 17 foot in old money, it certainly has the size.

This one is about a grand cheaper than anything else on donedeal, there's plenty of them around the €6K mark. So either looking for money quickly so it's a bargain or something amiss.

    €4,700, 3.0 diesel, 09/19 and 233,000 KM. 7 seats and a nice colour scheme.

That's a nice example too with good spec some of those only came with Halogen lights..

definitely counts, great car and especially for that money, in the exact right colours imo, and miles aren't galactic.

however I do have concerns, what are "Hit sheats"

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,079 ✭✭✭✭Duke O Smiley

Yeah, thats nice alright. I don't think they're as nice or as classy as a Range Rover though

For that money though you couldn't really complain

Very very hard to find an intact Range Rover for that money though. The 2002-2003 ones are an absolute nightmare for reliability,

that said, I believe this RR Sport just about qualifies in here, price is right, new NCT, lots of work done to it. That 2.7 has had its issues but id imagine that one has most of the revised / updated parts on it now, for that money a few trips to a trusted indy mechanic can be stomached.

i think it's a language issue.. Heated Seats would be my guess, along with
    Cruising control ... cruise control
    Pedal sheft .... paddle shift

I agree, I would say if you are looking for a luxury 4x4 a RangeRover is obviously your best bet, but with only €5k in your pocket that Q7 would be a nice compromise.

I was looking at that Sport a few days ago. Tiny wheels, unpainted mirrors and handles! Its missing cloth seats and a manual gearbox

Terrible build quality on the RR Sport. I'd go for the Q7 out of those two.

Having said that I've an 06 RX 400h the past year and put 30,000 km of motoring to and from Germany on it. Serious comfort and very reliable. €120 of repairs for the NCT all standard wear and tear.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,555 ✭✭✭✭Marlow

And I'd have an Audi Allroad Quattro any day over a Q7 or RR Sport .... oh wait ... that's what I have :)

    Hi
Is the all road much heavier on diesel / fuel compared to standard a4/a6

I have no idea. I've never owned an A4/A6 .. nor would I want to. Nor can you compare my fuel consumption with normal usage.

I use my Allroad off-road and on-road. I go to mast-sites, through fields and heavy terrain on a regular basis.

It also depends on what engine you pick and choose. Plus not all Allroads are Quattro. The Allroad can be got in 2WD.

    E32 7 series.....

    1) it's from the era BMW was making the breakthrough as a car lots of people aspired to - yet the cars were rare enough to not be on every street corner and still had some uniqueness compared to normal cars of the era. (These days BMW are a normal car unless youve a proper M class - M135, M3, M4).

    2) it's a car of the 80s and the 80s is starting to get "cool".

    3) 6 cylinder petrol in an age of diesels.

    4) sit into your old German chariot on a Sunday for a trip to a car show and have something relatively different to the Merc 123s, old Fords, old Toyotas etc.

    5) it's got presence without looking whacky.

All the above should move them from the pick one up for silly cheap 15 to 20 years ago and horse a Nissan diesel into it era to something worth paying for if you have the right example.

Valuing these cars is hard - they aren't exactly Mk 2 Escorts or Corolla twin cams - but if this one is nice and usable it should be a reasonable investment for 3 k for a car thats rare enough to be different while been originally built and engineered to a standard that still should make them very usable in 2018 motoring terms if in good working order.

Remember these things were probably built to do silly speeds on German autobhans without feeling stressed.

Edit it's a manual *sad face*.

    Still though

They are .. and will always be .. the ultimate driving machine.

I have yet to find something, that can match my E39 M5 in handling and comfort and noise.

Perfect sleeper until you open the taps and then hell breaks loose. But you still don't get stressed ... even at 280+ (can't do 300 anymore .. i replaced the rear-diff gearing ratio for more bottom end torque).

And I've done 2 Scally Rally's and a few other road trips in an E38 740i .. and yes .. you can even drift that ... auto-box in sport mode down on Inch beach and just put the boot down. Lots of fun.

Luxobarges should be looking for 'calf' not 'cow'!

'Cow' is for the midbarges like Jag X types, etc. or BMW 530Ds.

FWIW BMW advertise a lot of their upper level cars in Germany as having 'Buffalo Leather' (or Bison as we know it). It's always from the male as females get stretch marks when in calf.

Rolls and Bentley oddly enough take their leather from Alpine cattle, again always from the male due to stretch marks, but as Alpine pastures have almost no barbed wire or thorny ditches it is preferred as there is less chance of the leather being from an animal with scars.

Early E65 sounds warning bells, but I suppose if it's still on the road and "everything works" is true then it can't be too bad.

E65 are starting to grow on me, I remember hating them as they were a huge step down from the e38.
