Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

The tax on it is worth nothing as it's PSV.

Seller must be from the Max Power generation with putting that utter trailer trash Halfords letting on.

Badging is pathetic especially when their is no such thing! I wouldn't buy one and any of them for sale are on the market a long long time! They are getting dated now and so is the technology! If I was changing it would be something post 2011 or back to a LS 400!

Unless I'm wrong, there WAS a President spec LS of that generation, no? And that car seems to have it present and correct - two seats only in the back with center console and DVD screen etc. IIRC one or both of the back seats is an electric recliner with massaging function. Think there may be a flag holder on the front too for diplomatic use! Stupid name for a spec though, and an even stupider idea to stick it on the car.

Yes it was the presidential pack but never came with a badge! I'll keep the Lexus another while even though the previous owner was a Cowboy.......:p:p:p:p

Dunno..... I've definitely seen several listed with the badge over the years. Of course it could have been an Irish dealer thing!

There was a presidential pack but the donedeal car doesn't have it.
The proper one has aircraft business class type seats.

You're right actually - the DD one has the wrong console (I actually have the brochure for that generation LS here somewhere - should have pulled it out!). Bad enough that actual President spec cars had the badge without 'lesser' cars sticking it on too.....

    Y'all are both wrong ;)

The pictured one above is the RSR (rear seat relaxation) package and is exclusive to the LS600h

The one on donedeal is the Irish version of the 460 SE-L which has a sunroof, rear blinds on the window and electric rear seats (should have a video screen in the roof though). They called it the president pack here and supplied them with that cringworthy badge.

I wouldn't personally go near that one on donedeal. I saw that priced at 12,995 just a month or so ago so he is clearly in a big hurry to sell it. No mention of history either and a blurred plate.

If they've not had the air shocks done by this stage I wouldn't take a chance. Maybe at sub 4k, which is what they seem to sell at these days.

So a standard car that dealers added the name to? Like the GT Tdi Golf's.
What was the official name from lexus?

There isn't official name from Lexus. The names might be different in each country they sell the cars.

Whatever it’s called that is some amount of metal for 5 grand. Aside from suspension do these cars have any other expensive repairs at this mileage?

it really isnt though, any car with air suspension is going to be 'more costly' and troublesome than springs, but its about 250 a corner for decent air springs, you can get them cheaper if you do all 4 at the same time and bar a really bad knock wipes one out they should last 75k miles. pittance when you consider what the car cost new.

I was only having a similar discussion on another forum about the economics of running barges like that S Class on a modest budget. I no longer buy the argument that these cars still have €100k running costs ten years on. Theres a DIY guide for pretty much anything and everything relating to E65s/S Classes/A8s online, and motor factors can get you nearly anything you might need.

By the time the dealer no longer warranties those cars, specialists have all of the tools and software to look after them for the price just above an average family saloon.

I've only come round to the benefits of local motor factors recently, Car L Parts in Dundalk is the absolute business. Wander in at 10am, order some suspension/brake parts for the 740 from the brand I need ATE, TRW, Lemforder, Febi, Meyle whatever I want. And they'll be in stock after lunch for maybe 10-15% more than online. Worth it all day long.

I was getting a few bits from BMW last week and thought i'd throw in an air filter. £29+ VAT, having a laugh. Car L got the same Mann one for me in a few hours for €18.

Agreed re motor factors. Main selling point is also a chance to replace the part when you find it doesn't fit. And it happened to me few times.

I found certain Irish online store to be very expensive, or not worth it when locally same parts are just about the same price.

anything not really special ill always go to the motor factors for, a lot of the time they have special deals on oil or some consumable you need and it works out way cheaper than halfords or one of the online places too.

Motor factors are also an excellent place to ask about reliability issues if you are about to buy a new to you motor.

I didn't , the gearboxes in those were never known for reliability , its something to budget into changing / refurbing.

Interesting car, but also has an odd whiff about it. Very rare car either way.
Badly presented, dire photos, but could be worth a look.
2006 Audi A8 Biturbo with 410 bhp. Must be tuned as it had 325bhp from the factory.
New NCT to 03/2020 for €5,500. (It's valid, I checked)
€10K Bang & Olufsen stereo, but no pics of it. Has headlight switch as we have a photo of that.

Over budget at €7,750 but worth a mention. Has an NCT for 18 months and the savings in tax can be put towards keeping it on the road. Needs to have the seats pampered and probably a few other small bits, but you can run this car for less money than a new Golf for 1-2 years.

I remember about a year ago I was looking at that kind of audi and what put me off were the sheer costs of it if something went wrong.
    Eyes wide open I'd say.

I'm sure €4k will buy it, but if it comes with a bulk of a years (psv) tax, it's a €2-2.5k car!

Tax is invalid the second the car is transferred to new owner. You may as well have a disc from another car.

That car has no service history either. None whatsoever.

Still might be alright, who knows. But I'd be going into it with my eyes open as they can still throw a big bill with air stuts and vgrs issues.

The tax might not strictly be valid but given the chance between driving around for a year with a valid tax disc or paying 1500 extra, I know which I'd be doing. The car is "taxed".

I understand the logic for sure. But what I'm saying is, it's really no different to printing up a tax disc on your printer or taking it off a smaller engined car that you own. The disc becomes invalid the second you buy it.

If you get caught, you'll have a much bigger problem than if you just had an out of date tax disc. Same as the 1.8 on logbook thing, people were taken to court and got convictions for that.

The 1800 tax per year is a disgrace, would never argue against that. But know what you're getting into.

I don't think you would have anything like a similar problem to if you had printed a tax disc or used a disc off another car.
My thinking is that you have the defence of honest mistake. You bought the car taxed and didn't look any further into it.
This is a much different situation to where someone knowingly creates a false disc.
Unless they write to new owners and specifically tell them that any tax on the car is invalid, I think you would have reasonable defence.
If they do write out to new owners, well yes, there is no defence for running with taxi tax.
