Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

NCT passed last week on the Jag, some peace of mind there. I will own one of these one day :D

(although the wife reckons they are really old fashioned / old man cars - she's right there of course)

Up in march though so 6 months late putting it through.

Laughing all the way to your local Mercedes specialist I'd imagine.

Also, the CUT of the wheels

If im not mistaken they are wheelcovers from another merc as the car is base spec classic so no alloys.

They're alloys from the previous gen E class.

Also I'd say it's at least an Elegance; Chrome trim - Leather - Electric seats.

I'm going for a look at something in an hour, nothing special but going for silly money, hard to pass.

I just bought the wife a silly car for silly money, 4.5 petrol 4x4 German with a big P in the name, going to be hard to pass a petrol station. Capital cost is Less than the depreciation on a new Dacia for the year.

I'd say it'll be going to the uk come summer.

Met a man this evening and bought another E38 7 series. :)

Lived five minutes away from me, couldn't be handier. €650.

728i, facelifted, only 106k miles, full leather, xenons, sunroof etc, drives perfectly smoothly and shifts beautifully. An absolute sin to break it up and I feel suitably ashamed, but that's why I bought it.

    Some pics:

Interior is immaculate, just needs a hoover. Dual tone too which I really like:

It's sitting in my store, after driving so well, with all electrics working and I'm arguing with myself what to do with it! :o

THIS 728I WAS ALSO OWNED BY A MAN I WORK WITH :D

//if it has some NCT left on it, I'll happily buy it off you for 800 quid.

If it's not disassembled already :D

Small world! I thought you were up around this area alright. No NCT unfortunately, needs new rear bushes and wheel sensor.

The phone in this model doesn't seem to power on, the one in my E38 works just fine with an O2 SIM.

Yup. Plug and play. Was the same in my E39 Touring.

It's only the new stuff that's silly like that.

Any idea how much the wheel sensor would cost voodoo? I was interested in this when it was up on scamdeal but I missed it.

Genuine ones are around the €100 mark, assuming that's the problem. I might have a new one kicking around here somewhere, can pick up used ones for less than €40.

I thought it's worth more when you upgrade, not downgrade? :D
Besides, you'd be making more than 150 quid on me from the start since you got the xenons :D

(And it's me who has to fork out 1391 quid on tax :D )

I can do 900 if you take me for a spin in yours (735i if I recall)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,660 ✭✭✭Voodoomelon

    Hee hee.
It's funny, I bought it just to take the aux water pump and xenons out, everything else was a bonus. Breaking starts next week!

Talking about Luxobarges .. or sort of ... the current climate ... etc.

I've made a deal on something rare today, that can be considered a Luxobarge ... just in time to have another 4WD outside the door for winter :) ...

Made a deal on an E34 525iX Touring. Basically the pre-decessor of the X5 and only just over 800 of'em build in RHD. And that ain't gonna get broken.

Fun part about that one was, that I was looking for one 3 years ago, but only found an autobox one, which a mate bought. I wanted a manual.

I then bought the Audi 200 Quattro Avant. A week after that a manual one turned up in London for very cheap money. I didn't buy it, so it disappeared after a short while.

Well, I was rewarded with the best car for one of the worst winters we had here. And the Audi was perfect for that.

The fun part is, that that same manual one from London has surfaced again .. in Dublin. Picking it up next weekend.

    /M

Can't believe the reaction to your post has been so lame. Let me at least try and be a bit more enthusiastic:

    Hallelujah, my hero :D

Hope your wife appreciates you as much me and all the other petrolheads on here do :D

V8 petrol? Maybe hard to pass a petrol station in one, but impossible for 99.9% of cars on the road to overtake one :)

Do you mind me asking how much the Porsche set you back? I see cheapest ones online seem to be around 9k.

Are they reliable? Im currently driving Z4 and I would like to give the Cayenne a try.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 23,694 ✭✭✭✭L-M

Apparently theres a big ass drive shaft front to back that needs replacing every few k that ain't cheap.

Ouch that could be nasty, not driving much though, just weekends. Irony of the current situation in Ireland is that you can get amazing cars for cheap because of high motor tax, but in my opinion you need to be driving a lot to justify paying the tax.

It's not only the high motor tat it's the now inherent fear your average Irish motorist has for petrol if its not diesel most don't want to know.

Me I'll be sticking to petrol unless someday I start doing mental mileage.

Not at all, 2 years of ownership per owner is totally fine. But those early e65's are dogs, plagued by electrical issues and better left alone to be honest.
