That we are running out of fossil fuel in the next few years?

Just for comparison purposes - the new S400 Hybrid which has a 3.5L V6 and a proper gearbox (none of that CVT rubbish) emits 153g/km. This makes it fall under the same tax band as the new A8 with the 2.0L TFSI engine.
    Well done, Mercedes.

And a 3.0L straight 6 in the new 7er ActiveHybrid. Not sure about the gearbox but it's 8 speed. Higher tax than the other two but better fuel economy than the S400.

Still sounds more tempting than the A8 though imo.

Where? The S400 supposedly gets an average of 6.3 L/100Km while the BMW gets an average of 6.8 L/100Km.

Fantastic wheels on this, and LPG to boot. Pity it's so expensive.

It says 100km on 13 Euro of fuel. With my terrible bad maths, What is that l/10km or MPG in conventional petrol equivalent ?

    I think 19mpg presuming lpg at €0.90/litre

    +1

All depends on the price of the LPG. Wouldn't think running unleaded in it would give much better than that.

id say unleaded would be more in the 12-15 range

mpg on unleaded should be better in theory, I think maybe €13 for 100kms not realistic figure :)

Must have been looking at the wrong one. Saw 36 mpg.

Edit: It gives 36 mpg for SWB and 42 mpg for LWB. :D

2nd Edit: Found it now. Carzone are still idiots. :pac:

You'd buy a car from someone who words an advert like that? Good luck!

So some's started out a business doing LPG conversions and for that you wouldn't buy it?
Seems a bit strange really, I'd buy a car on its own merits and not those of the seller.

It wouldn't put me off viewing it and I'd assess it as I would any other car.

What does someone's wording of an advert tell you about a car?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,843 ✭✭✭✭bear1

I think the ad is wording just fine. Not too much much and not too little.
    Just no pleasing people sometimes

    Was wondering the same myself.

The equivalent of about 3833mpg if you were filling it with petrol. Not bad for a 5.0l V8.

Typical diesel luxobarges are in the low 30's in mpg.

No LPG price just basing it on there claims.

    13 euro / 100 km = 8.6l petril (@ eur1.50) / 100 km = 33 mpg petrol equivilant

I'll edit my other post :o

    I honestly don't think though that a 2003 5.0 V8 could get 33 mpg.

It won't, more like 20mpg but the equivalent cost to run on lpg is around 30mpg.

Given the less dense nature of LPG, the mileage per gallon would be less than petrol which would never approach 38mpg. Often, people expect a 10-20% drop in mpg using LPG as opposed to petrol. The point of LPG is that it carries a much lower fuel duty than petrol hence each mile costs less.

140k is absolutely nothing on a BMW V12

Not on the BMW engine, it will probably do a million miles no bother. Same can not be said about the ZF made auto transmission though.

Dealers and indies refuse to service these boxes so 140k could very well mean near enough to end of life for one. I wouldn't touch it myself...

Are we talking about the "sealed" nature of these boxes? Because plenty of indies can and do "unseal" them.

EDIT: In fact, didn't even BMW backtrack on this when people started coming in with 100k+ transmissions, looking for flushes? Or is this something unique to the boxes attached to the V12s?

The box in the V12 is different to the 740i (seemingly a more reliable zf unit), but the fluid can be done just like all the others.

Indy's can be hesitant to do them, as sometimes they tank after the change, and they get blamed.

But they can be flushed for sure.

I'd be interested in that all the way until I'd see "timing chain probably a job for future".
Quite expensive for a near 20 year old 4.0 Jag which also needs a new headlight for the NCT which I imagine wouldn't be cheap

Thats a normally aspirated one, they were CL500's with AMG engine mods to get the extra capacity and whatever other magic that AMG did. They don't have the 4 exhaust pipes which is the visual giveaway and the big supercharger with the name plate of the guy that assembled it. The Supercharged version came out in 2003 and knocks out 493bhp.

I've been thinking about one for a year at least at this stage and reckon I'll have a look at it as it sounded interesting on the phone. However I think I really want the supercharged version as you may as well be hung for a sheep as a lamb. The V12 CL 65AMG would be the dogs danglies with 600 bhp but not as relaible as the V8

Was just searching for stuff on the CL500 as I just traded in my 2004 74k mint example in a MB main dealer in the UK for a diesel after putting up with €200-300 pw fill ups over the last 3 1/2 years!!
I got more for my car than any dealer here was willing to give, got a better specked car that's not available here to begin with and to cap it all am going to be getting 36% VRT back on the omsp here of my CL! Happy days :)

How many miles do you do to spend 2-300 pw? Thats a shocking amount really. What did you trade for ? I would say probably CLS 320 cdi?

It really is. I mean for €300 I would get the best part of 500 miles even in my 12-15 mpg truck!

I believe those Merc's have a 80 litre tank, say a litre of petrol is 1.5 then a full tank equates to 120e per tank.
I think they have a combined cycle of 20 mpg.
80l is 17 gallons so assuming my figures are correct thats about 330/350 miles to a tank.
It could be possible tbh if he is doing for e.g. Dublin-Cork everyday. If not, there was something wrong with the car
