Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

LUXOBARGE (sub5k) of the week/day

Guys, increasing the budget to €5k as luxobarges have become rarer over the last 6 months and some prices have gone up.
Doesn't necessarily have to be €5,000 asking, but needs to be as close as possible (so if you know you could drive the price down to €5k, post)

The Lexus has gone down €795 in price over the 6 months.

It's the same one from the first post :D

There's been a lot of heart ache in here over what makes a luxo barge.

Basically it's a big luxurious car with the ride complements of a barge.
Some say it has to have a big engine but luxo barges aren't about racing. They're about space and serenity.

    That is you opinion

define driving like a barge? does an audi s8 drive like one? I wouldn't know so I was just wondering

Id have thought a big engine was a must, no point in driving something that is underpowered, not even talking about racing

Must vaguely resemble one of these.

Big engine, fairly long, holds alot of stuff.

vaguely. That goes by water, the other is a car which drives on the road

When I bought the alfa I transferred the insurance over to it straight away after signing the log.
So Id argue when te log is signed your now the owner, because If you weren't until Shannon had issued a new log, then in effect you could be seen as stealing the car.

If you were to drive it on third party extension post signing the change of ownership form then I doubt that you'd be insured

when one purchases a car, one can take the log book to the motor tax office, tax it, they keep the log book, then you get a new on whenever.

Why would I take the log book when I buy the car?
I fill in my details, it gets posted off by the previous owner and then a few days/weeks later I get the new log.

Exactly, the seller keeps the log book and they send it off.

Moving a big heavy luxurious car requires a confidently powerful engine, which is a large CC block of some sort. An A8 with a 2.0litre engine wouldnt be very serene*.

    * Yes I know they are planning a mega charged 4pot for the A8..

Would be very serene actually. You wouldn't be able to move that car with a 2.0 .

For the record, that was an unbiased both sides description.
I wouldn't buy a Luxobarge without it being absolute top spec and engine, what's the point otherwise? :)

A Luxobarge is a full sized, well equipped large engined car. It should also be good looking too IMO so an E65 don't count. ;)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 23,157 ✭✭✭✭Alanstrainor

That was posted here recently. And I reckon its definitely one to miss. Looks rough enough (back bumper) and I wouldn't touch the early E65 with a barge pole to be honest.

I'm not a fan, and I wouldn't buy one. They are rapidly decreasing in price though, and no doubt they'll be in bangernomics territory soon!

If I could get one for €2k, I'd be laughing.
Spend another €2-3k on a facelift kit and you got yourself hell of a bargain.

And you can sell the old parts on DoneDeal!

    Parts needed:

    Front:
    - E66 Bonnet
    - E66 Grille
    - E66 Wings
    - E66 Front Bumper
    - E66 Headlights
    - E66 Side Indicators

    Rear:
    - E66 Tailgate
    - E66 Tailgate Lights
    - E66 Rear Bumper
    - E66 Taillights.

    Three points on that:

    1. If you're paying €3,000 extra for a facelift, you're up on the price of a real facelifted car

    2. You still have the unreliability of the earlier car, most of which was sorted in the facelift

    3. In Ireland it doesn't make a bit of difference as the reg plate with the year on tends to be a giveaway.

    ;)

You can buy one for 6k.

Facelifting an older 7'er would be absolute lunacy. Keep the extra cash for the electrical nightmare that will inevitably hound you, if you really want one.

But just like the early CL, they're best avoided altogether.

No to go off topic but I'm seriously considering getting one of these when my S60 finally gives up the ghost and sticking in an LPG conversion. What's the chances that this final version of the classic xj shape will be a car worth holding onto?

Aren't vintage ads on DoneDeal only €3 where a regular car for sale ad is €5? So maybe less retard and more scabby git ;)

Seems like very vert basic spec to be one, not even LWB. Magnificent find? Hmmmmm
