Did you buy anything heard there was a load up there.

Nearly bought a VW Beetle, but otherwise there wasn't much of interest to me.
I might send my MR2 in.

Remember this wasposted here a while ago, and I said it sold at auction a few weeks ago. It was back in Mullingar auctions this evening.

Did it sell if you don't mind me asking?

I was looking into buying it myself, but slightly too rare and with complex cars that's not a good thing (when looking for parts, insurance etc).

    No, didn't sell this evening.

I'd stay away from it tbh. Something dodgy about it. Has been for sale months, I'm just not sure if its been passed around between owners or if the one person hasn't sold it in about 3 months. Both equally worrying really.

The fact its been through the Auction and coming back a few weeks is a bad sign.

If its the Pheaton - wasn't it sold initially a few days before going through the auction the first time????

Serious question, but how much should that Rolls be worth?
Surely a lot more than 2k?

V8, probably the most famous engine in motoring, the RR 6 and three quarter v8.

Egad - a V8 it was. Why was I so sure they were V12??

Mid to low-ish quality one go for a bit more than 5k. That must be an awful heap.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 23,694 ✭✭✭✭L-M

Yeah, the main thing with those are the brakes, if they're gone they could cost you the 2k again.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 935 ✭✭✭wildefalcon

They aren't too bad to work on, though, once the high pressure circuits are intact. It's not too far from the citroen system. A copy of the workshop manual is a must, though, but parts are available from the UK. Engine is straightforward, gearbox is a fairly standard unit. Once the body work is ok, the rest is just fairly standard 1970s british electics.

That one looks to have a rusty wheel arch, indicative of body rot elsewhere. Seeing as how cheap they are in fair to good condition I'd avoid.

RE that Roller, theres no paperwork with it.

That looks exactly like the stolen Bentley t1. Can anyone enlarge the photo to see if that is a winged lady or a B on the front? Different number plate on it. This seems to be the number plate of a UK import. Round mirror is same, seats same, interior same, white rings on wheel. That one had cost 22000 back then. It did a good 80+ mph but used up a lot of leaded petrol. It takes additive mix to drive this.
He picks up phone and does not answer but does not hang up either. Second time ringing, answering machine. Leave a message thank you BEEP.
Then I finally get him on the phone and he suddenly hangs up. (I mention Bentley by mistake) He does say the engine is ok it starts drives and stops.
Anyone feel like ringing and asking more?

Its a Version 1, and the 2 is much better/dearer.
Id say it would be lucky to do 12 mpg:D

The eauner of such a prestigious motor does not require brakes. The peasants are expected to make way. Make way, peasants!

80+ mph in that rust bucket? Id say it would take all day to get to 80 and even longer to stop. Sounds terrifying.

Will cruise all day at 80mph no problem, problem as you say is getting there and stopping.

This beast is the real deal although way over price limit for thread, was one of fastest saloons in the world in its day in spite of size and weight:

That's been on the classifieds sites for well over a year now, I reckon. Even taking the price into account, I'd say there's something wrong with it. If there wasn't, an enthusiast would've wangled it out of them by now. Otherwise the dealer is just plain greedy, which wouldn't surprise me.

I saw a green one in the flesh in IKEA one day, four young happy things got out of it and wandered off into the shop, and I seethed with envy, and drooled with lust, and fell over my tongue. It said "Six And Three Quarter Litre" somewhere, which sounds ridiculous but just works on a Bentley; it's probably the best badge I've ever seen on a car. I'll have one within the next 5 years or so. Here's an identical one. Fupping yum.

am not a Roller fan - but I love the simple fact they exist.

My thinking - if you like them (Rollers) - do your homework into the cars - and go in with your eyes open - and can afford it - then go for it imo

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,017 ✭✭✭lomb

Yes a Bentley is my next purchase. I just got a 500 SEC which is a beautiful car. Im going to restore that soon and keep it. Once thats done a Bentley Turbo R is next.
Ive not much interest in new cars although I respect them. I suppose if you have the cash to throw away. Im like Id rather a good modern car and spend the rest on vintage. I mean if you have a bit to spend would you rather a new depreciating E class or a fairly rock solid investment E Type Jag? I think Id rather the E type which will be next after the Bentley.Lets hope the classic car bubble deflates a little:)

If you have ten grand you can afford to buy a half-decent Roller or Bentley and run it for at least a year, probably two if nothing major goes wrong in the first year, and quite possibly more if you play your cards right. Or you could buy a new Dacia Sandero.....

Does anyone know how economical the Audi A8 3.0 TDI really is?

I refuse to believe these can do 45mpg if driven carefully.

Chap told me he was getting 30 to 35 mpg driving hard every day so 40 is surely very possible.

If you started driving on the motorway, waited until you were at 60mph and drove, then checked it 50 miles later after doing a constant 60mph, then I'm sure you might manage 45 mpg. You wouldn't have a hope in hell combined.

Well, we all know 40.4 MPG is possible in the 4.0 TDI :pac:

That is a retrofittable option , my dilema currently is , wood or heated steering wheel, because they dont do a heated wood steering wheel.

I had the Phaeton to start and then wanted to show my son that I could have 5 of the best for less than he has spent on a poverty spec mercedes.
I kinda got caught up in the excitement and now have the Phaeton, 2 Jaguars
and 2 Lexus Ls. I need to sell 1 Jaguar and 1 Lexus. this will free me up to get the 7 series and the S Class I want.

Remember this guys, well the E250 that my son paid 48,000 euro for,yes 48,000 euro.
with only 120,000 kilometers on, just had the engine pack up. first he complained about tapping on startup about 6 or 7 seconds, only from cold, brought to specialist, left overnight, still he said could not hear but recommended another oil change, even if oil only changed about a month.
Specialist changed oil and all filters, also recommended to change the chain tensioner, and water pump, we took the car away and thought about it for just one day,
before giving go ahead. he done the work then called us again to come listen
to a different noise. Strip the engine to see what this is, when he did, we could see the gears were chipped, including the one on the end of the crankshaft, so new engine needed.
guys i know this is very badly written but I'm so angry I can't think straight. Bill

Sorry to hear about the engine failure, Merc aren't what they used to be. They are playing off the brand name and have been for at least 15 years although some of their cars are superbly styled. It is madness to pay 48k for a e250 with 120k km on it. Id be thinking that's 8 years of average miles so worth 20% of new ie less than 10k.
How much is a new e250?
