Vodafone broadband speed throttling?

    Hey guys,
First off I had Vodafone fibre installed last week. All was running perfect until yesterday. Today after logging into the router to do a bit of snooping I noticed that my line speeds had drastically dropped.
On the day of installation my downstream line rate was over 70000kb/s and my upstream line rate was over 13000kb/s. As of today my downstream line rate is 30907kb/s and upstream line rate is 9335kb/s.
After speaking with a Vodafone representative I was told that this is not vodafone's fault and in fact a fault of eircoms. I was told that that is the limit that my line will take. What I cannot understand is why my average line speed was 45Mb/s according to samknows performance monitoring for the past week if my line is only capable of 30Mb/s speeds.
I'm wondering if anyone else has had similar issues.
    Thanks in advance,
    David

when you say logging in to do a bit of snooping do you mean using the basic VF login details?

as for speeds they are all in another thread, how far are you from cabinet and here is one for you.

Here also is a link to my samknows monthly report card,

(my fibre package was installed at 12pm on Wednesday the 30th of may)

Also I am less than 30m from the cab. Im pretty much the closest house in my area.

Just to rule out the obvious, you aren't doing the speed check via wifi? I've 100mb UPC myself and wifi based tests can vary whereas ethernet is rock solid

    at 30m = max ie 70mb.

have you made any changes to the wiring? how have you the phone connected?

    1. take out phone line from face plate.

    2. re boot router.

    3. log in and check sync under wan then dsl= ?

    do 3 speed checks

    then post back

    Hey guys,

Sorry about the late reply, I have been away for a few days.

So after arriving home last night I did a few more speed tests. The results were terrible. I then woke this morning to no internet at all but I did notice an eircom van at the cabinet outside my door. After about an hour I got a knock and was asked to do a speedtest.

Im using a 30m Ethernet cable for the tests. My dog ate my good one over the weekend.

I suppose that would mean that there was some sort of fault at the cabinet. Anyway now that its fixed I would like to take the time to tkank you for your comments and direction!

    David.

wow, what a result and thanks for getting back, enjoy your new surfing, and I think those pings are the best so far, you should do separate ping test. you are faster than 98% of IE!!

I know ya. Its amazing I was on 8mb/s up until two weeks ago. I never expected this kind of increase.

I also just downloaded a large file I have stored on a seedbox to see how it runs in reality. The file downloaded at 79mb/s.

    Exciting times!

    Cheers again mate!
