If they did, I have to agree that they made a bigger hames of it than I first thought, they should have spotted the problems at that stage!

    What's your source for that?

Yup, they did, first hand experience

I'm sorry, but you couldn't be any more wrong. The SEC are to blame.

Ever heard of time management? If you can't solve something, drop it and move on. If you have time left over, come back

they included the important bit. you pointed out that the time used in solving the insolvable question resulted in not being able to answer the following question. that means that the SEC will have to give very lenient marking to Q9! Well done man. you helped us all out

I think the mistake is great, it means if you attempted it you get full marks. If you wasted time on it you've noone to blame but yourself.

bs. wasting time on it would be done by making sure you had the right answer, which any student, good or bad, would be wise to do

    The sexual tension mounts! :p

I've suspected for ages that was what was behind the constant verbal shoving! :pac:

I'm annoyed by this mistake for the following reasons:

    - Would've got nearly full marks anyway (not trying to be a prick)
    - Fecked up my timing
    - Now anyone who made a half arsed effort will probably get full marks.
    - Knock on effect means harder marking everywhere else for the bell curve.

It's great for C and D students, totally unfair on those aiming for B's and A's

I fully agree with you (which is rare). I'm really not happy about it all. I've probably missed out on my B1.

We all just need to built a bridge and get over it really. It happened, it's not out fault, we'll all get what we deserve in the end so it's time to stop the whinging and moaning and move on. There's more to the LC (and life) than one mistake.

I'm only hearing now that the Pilot schools sitting Ordinary Level Paper 1 were asked the Quotient rule which is no longer on the course. Apparently, material was taken from the Old Caculus (Section C) and just thrown on to the Phase 3 part of the course - no attempt to engage with the new approach. It sounds like these papers were a bit of a last minute job.

:O sometimes with project maths I despair for the coming years maths ability, there'll probably be asked to write an essay on how maths makes them feel or something, I'd be the first to admit that project maths is serious dumbing down!

More on topic though surely it is with the new approach that they asked them to do quotient rule, aren't they looking at peoples ability to decipher and work with formulae they've never seen before?
