    Hi,

I am having trouble with a 2005 1.4 petrol Opel astra.
I need to replace the ECU? does anyone know where I can buy a second hand or a cheap one?

    Thanks

Any scrap yard should have an ecu kit.

    What's it doing wrong?

They're under the nearside wing on them yokes IIRC, and road crud sometimes gets them. Maybe you just have some corroded wiring and/or connectors in there? There's a crowd called Autokey in Dublin who seem to specialise in vehicle electronics weirdness - might be worth giving them a bell.

They're good with that kind of stuff , but if your on a budget you could try mactronic in Tallaght , they're great with ecu's etc and a fraction of auto keys prices.

    thanks all for the replys,
The car is totally dead and the opel dealer has said there is oil in the ECU and has never seen one as bad.
I wont fully know until Monday morning.
I understand them to be very expensive, as in 1000-1500 euro, anyone know if this is correct?
I,m living in Galway now so Tallaght is a little out of the way for me but thanks anyway..

You could always take it out and post it to them .... They'll need the original one anyway to sort out the immobiliser codes etc.

Sorry I can't recommend anyone on the other side.

Jaysis. I dunno, but I know you can get a new Jag ECU for a couple hundert Sterling from Eurojag.

Here's two options in the UK both have good reputations. Have as much detail as possible on the car if you are going to contact any of them. Eg VIN

    http://www.allvox.co.uk

    http://www.vauxhall-ecu.com/

Would certainly recommend Mactronic as well. They replaced the ECU in our Volvo for 6 times less than Koping asked!

//edit: oops, didn't notice you live in Galway.

    thanks for the replys all..

Does anyone know whats involved in fitting these?
Can a regular mechanic do it or is it specialized?

    Regards

From the website it looks almost like a self fit job. If you get one of the UK ones programmed for your car, then it is just a matter of getting someone to fit it.

So anyone / any mechanic should be able to do it.

If you get one from a scrapyard not programmed for the car will be a bigger job to fit as you will have to swap immobilizers / keys etc.. (I think)

Where is the ECC in a 2001 Astra Petrol

I think it is behind the nearside bumper.

    Talk to http://www.the-ecu-doctor.co.uk/
The repaired one for me and am very happy with result.
Cost around £250 and a bit of delay with postage.

Where about in a 2001 petrol 1.4 Astra is the ecu and how do you access it to replace it.

  • Registered Users Posts: 4,931 ✭✭✭dingding

    Found it

Mounted on the Right Hand side of the Engine. It is visible when the engine cover is removed.

I replaced the ECU and the key reader and the car started first time and going very well.

Some sites talk about the ECU being in the driver footwell to the right of the accelerator. This is not the ECU and appears to be some sort of controller for the electric windows.

If anyone is doing something similar post your questions and I will try to help.

I'm in a similiar situation with a 08 1.6L and wondering if there's anyone in Limerick to contact about a 2nd hand or scrap ECU? Mine is currently in the garage with 1 of 2 possible problems, broken cable in the engine harness wiring or the ECU itself :(

Apparently there is an Eastern European lad based somewhere on the Dock road called Roman who is a wiz with repairing ECUs. I don't have any contact number but I will ask at work tomorrow.
