just read that Iain banks' battle with cancer ended today, coincidentally had been reading about his current project in the " Sunday times". A phenomenal loss. Rest in peace.

The Wasp Factory is one of the weirdest books I've ever read. He could sure tell a story. RIP.

    :(
Tis a shame. I've only ever read The Wasp Factory (which I loved). Will have to get around to reading more of his stuff. Anyone got any recommendations?

Canal Dreams, The Business and Whit stand out for me although all his books are top notch.

And that's before you get into the sublime scifi - Excession, Feersum Endjinn, Player of Games - it's all particularly good scifi.

As a friend of mine said, Iain (M) Banks has Sublimed. RIP.

Thanks guys for the recommendations. I've ordered both of these from the wonderful library and have received "The Crow Road" already.
