I noticed that Gerry Murphy had been missing from the forecast all during the fine weather, probably due to the fact that the words " drizzle" and heavy showers were not been mentioned. Then, right on cue he returns last night to predict a week of miserable weather!

Yeah, I noticed his return too.

And he seemed to be far too happy with the forecast he was delivering !

Was just thinking exactly that last night, someone needs to start a campaign to keep Gerry away from our screens he seemed to be enjoying relaying the bad news to us aswell:D

Rain can be bad news, it can be good news.

For some it is bad, for others it is good.

Hard to imagine him in a tight leather skirt if there was good weather to bring news on :D

Yeah, notice they wheel him out for bad and wet weather, must be his killer smile at the end of the broadcast that brings a smile to a damp squib :)

Not bashing him, just making an observation that he seems to relish in promoting "drizzle" and "rain spreading from the west". :D

He really rubbed it in last night by reminding us of the 50th anniversary of this :)

unfortunately Gerry is telling it as it is, his charts last night showed a succession of Atlantic lows, one after the other approaching the country.
This is very worrying, as we all know this is a rut that can very difficult to get of............. and the comparisons with 1962 continue. June that year had an anticyclonic beginning too.
(this is not a ramp for next winter)

That's the Ken Ring school of weather where history repeats but it's been proved here many times when a past pattern seems to be emerging it all too often changes its mind.

Of course. If that was the case then long range forecasting would be 100% accurate. But I find that summers that start early are generally not good and cold winters are almost always preceded by poor summers.
But as you say "all too often changes its mind" is why weather watching is so interesting.

He obviously spotted that we were in for a few nice days, took time off, went back to Monaghan to fish and sleep at a lake for a week
    Can't fault him there

I'm not sure about the probabilities you are posing. Most of our summers are poor ( depending on who is judging of course ) but we don't get that many cold winters, we can get long drawn out mild winters with a cool run at the end and the odd cold one.
How early is an early start to the Summer?
Ken Ring said in January that this will be our best Summer since 1995 with temps of 30C in July and drought conditions by August. The problem is that he is usually wrong so what now are the chances of a Murphy or a Byrner?

Not gerrys fault rain is baco

It's Gerard Fleming, put his wink back and summer will return,

Still the last 10 days of June will be ok but not 24c but 18 to 21c however some showers but drier than this
