I have been told on here that when I enter letters into my browser it tries to predict what I am looking for and attempts to complete the word.

The other night I wanted to look up apple ipads. I was in google and got as far as typing in "a" into my browser and it came up with a suggestion of "app2.maritalaffair.ie", "app2.maritalaffiar.ie/profile" etc.

Needless to say it caused chaos in my house and it looked like I had previously been on this site which I wasn't . The hubby thought it was my browser history.

Is this just a random thing ? I have definitely never used a site like this before so I dont know why it came up.

unless he's exceptionally stupid he's not using your tablet to cheat on you. ( but he's probably using it to look at dirty websites and doesn't know how to cover his tracks :) )

It was actually his tablet until a few weeks ago but he got a new one so I've been using this one. There was a member login on the web "app2/maritalaffair.ie/member login" so I presume this means he had been logged into this site ?
I dont want to go accusing him of anything unless I am sure this could not get there without him using this site.

what did he say when you showed him originally?

I asked him how it got there and he said it was nothing to do with him that he had never even heard of that site. And then he asked if I had been using it and I said I couldn't becuase I had not really used the nexus until that day so I pushed it back to him. He got all upset and started to google things and said he was going to get to the bottom of it. He swore it was not him and I just left it at that but I really want to know if I should be concerned and trying to dig further.

I am not really sure - i suppose its possible it got there some other way. Did you check the history or temporary internet files on the computer? You would think if he was looking at stuff like that, he would delete it before giving you the pc <?>

I didn't I just left it. It just came up when I started to type a word into the browser.
He uses Torrent all the time on his laptop to download things and I know ther are a lot of dating sites and chat sites that pop up automatically when he is using that but he says its part of the site but I'm not sure if he ever downloaded from his nexus. I never really paid any attention to be honest because I kinda believe that his stuff is private and I did trust him

he probably has joined the site, BUT that doesn't mean he had even the slightest desire to cheat.
He probably stumbled on to the site (sites like this advertise a lot ) and thought he'd see some , ahem adult pictures of irish girls, curiosity got the better of him and he signed up.
When you showed him the site , he panicked "DENY DENY DENY porn, what porn ? me ? no way! "

I'd be more inclined to believe he visited that site accidentally.

He might've been having a little look at some dirty websites, they can estimate his location and serve ads saying "Ms X from Dundrum" or somewhere nearby, typically they can guess your location to around 5km or so.
If he accidentally clicks on the wrong image, which is very possible on a phone/tablet, it could've brought him to that website which got saved in the browsers history and served up by auto-complete.

I have no problem with him visiting dirty websites. Its what men do and he knows I am ok with this.
I have also seen those chat thingy's come up on torrent where girls are asking him if he wants to chat etc but that never bothered me either.

I do have a problem with him being on a site that is for having affairs behind your partners back. It did come up with the member login on the browser which is what worried me the most so its not like he just looked at the site. It looks like he had a login for it.
Oh dear. I'm feeling quite deflated now :-(

Well on some of those sites if you click on an image on the advertisement, they automatically re-direct you to a member login page so you will sign up to see more. Maybe he only clicked on a few images and it brought him to the login screen and thus why your computer remembers it.

Maybe. I'm hoping this is the case. I would never accuse him of anything unless I was sure. Innocent until proven guilty as they say. I just hope this is the case. It will be in the back of my mind though. Bloody dating sites !!
Thanks so much everyone for your comments. I appreciate it :-)

Did you click on the username field to see if it autocompletes too?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 15 Loadsafreckles

I did. Nothing came up. The info was blank.

i just went to the site and clicked all over the place, didn't get taken to the logon page.
You have to sign up to see anything. But i'd still say he just wanted to look at pics of irish girls and since he's denied knowledge of the site he's unlikely to come clean.
(On the other hand you now know he wants pics of irish girls , and theres probably one girl in particular that he'd want to see pictures of... so out with the camera phone ;) )

Lol, my very own private investigator :-) *grabs camera

You could browse through the history on the browser to see if there are a load of individual pages clicked on for that domain. That would give you an idea if he's signed up or not.
By the looks of it there are only a handful of pages viewable without signing in.
Also as you're snooping around you could click on the "Most Visisted" tab in the browser history to see the sites he's been visting most often.

I'll try that. Although there is a good chance he would have deleted that by now. He gets home before me and the nexus is always at home.
On the other hand....he doesn't have the elite of investigators like I have with you lot :-))))

or , if your paranoia is set on high, you could join the site and search for a member who matches your husband.

True. I'm not on major paranoia. If he wants to or does cheat it will come out eventually. Stuff like that always does.

Just something to be aware of, regarding how Google is integrated into Android and associated with google accounts.

If you were to search for something on your PC through google, while you've a google session signed in, through your mailbox. It'll cache that search and become avail on your android device via Google Now.

As an example, I was briefly interested in looking up Blessington Lakes the other day, after searching on the laptop, later on that day I got a notification on my phone telling me how long it'll take to get there.

So just because it came up on the Nexus, doesn't mean it was done on the Nexus. Could of been the PC too.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 15 Loadsafreckles

    did that. nothing came up.

ooooo.......I see. I need the laptop so !!! This is getting more complicated. I need to knock him out for an hour so I can get on with all of this stuff lol

I like your way of thinking. It will be his loss of that's the case.

OP you could download LastPass if its google chrome. It should give you the option of saving all the passwords ever clicked "remember me" with the emails/username and sites involved and it'll search through the computer for them. Not a dodgy add on. I use it to store all my passwords and its a must have add on. Worth a shot.

Use this as your home page and get rid of auto complete
