What the Junior Cert is about

The Junior Certificate is an examination to see what you have learned throughout your three years of the Junior Cert Cycle. Its intention is to see if teachers are teaching the subjects well and what subjects are most popular with students, the Junior Cert is also about giving a student an indication on what subjects they should pick for there leaving.

What makes an ideal Junior Cert candidate

What makes an ideal Junior Cert candidate is for someone who does they're homework all the time, not just for the sake of getting it done, but to the best of there ability. Exercise, sleep and self-confidence can be a major contributor to a good Junior Certificate, not in all cases but most. If you do plenty of exercise before studying and drink water before/while studying and are full in concentration you're more likely going to be able to study better with no distractions. If there's kids in your house or for some reason theres no way to study go to your room or study in a room which is quiet, if that is not possible go to the Library.

What also makes an ideal Junior Cert Candidate believe it or not is if a student uses there integrity to do research. For example if you're doing genetics in school for Biology, and out of curiousity, you go and look over Genetics and you keep looking over it, you're more likely to develop a better understanding of that specific topic, this goes for anything.

Some will laugh, some will agree with this, but you honestly need it! You need a study plan other whise everything will just be a mess. A study plan is bascially an estimated time on what to study on a certain day so for example, you might study four subjects a day and divide each subject up by half an hour or maybe an hour for some, whichever you feel comfortable with. If you have a study plan you're well on your way to a good Junior Cert.

Not just homework but practice, practice and practice! You need to practice, the best way of doing this is by using your exam papers, espicially for Maths. If you don't practice maths for the Junior Cert and say for e.g if you're doing Higher Level Maths for the Leaving Cert, you honestly have no chance as the Leaving Cert requires tonnes of practice.

You need to be literate, have a good understanding and general knowledge! That is a big help, mostly for subjects like English,Geography and an element of it in History.

If you do all of the things I have mentioned in the thread, you're well on your way for a good Junior Cert, best of luck with all your exams? Is it too late? No use this guide for your leaving cert, if you have followed the guide already well done and I'm sure you're an A Student

    Regards,
    Kilkenny

I think you should post this when the new Boardsie Juniors make new accounts in September (if they even bother looking for online help).

Everything you said was true man. The best advice I can give to someone doing their Junior Cert is to do their homework throughout the 3 years, honestly It's by far more important than studying in the few weeks before the JC. Just don't be a lazy bastard and do all of your homework in first and second year and you'll be graaaaand.
