Level 22 and i don't fully understand this stuff. In this situation would I or wouldn't I buy this Armor.

Am I right in saying its increasing my armor value but decreasing my health so is there not a cancellation as such between the two?. And then of course an increase in firepower.

I've been generally going by how much they affect the 3 main stats and ignoring the "Arm" values

Armour isn't just the rating - it's how it influences stats too. That armour upgrades your firearms, so more damage ... but it reduces your health/hit points, so you'll be more fragile.

    Everything is a trade off.

My stat priorities right now are Medical/health, firearms then tech.

Wouldn't waste credits on any weapons or gear until you're 30. I've been specing my gear to activate my weapon perks rather than trying to gor health or dps specifically.

I'm at level 26, haven't had a single purple drop yet in 22 hours of play, then of course two drop in sequence from two non-entity Rikers out on the street, because, why not?

There's so much in the gear and inventory that I've not figured out yet, not helped by the fact that the last three times I've played I've been really drunk. I'm just finding the DZ pretty much impossible at the moment. All my mates are leveled up past me so I can't go to their DZ because I'm a one shot kill. So I go into my own level DZ and there's AI literally everywhere and you can't get away from them. It's a bit of a nightmare. I think I need to grind missions to level up to the guys.

What level are you? You can solo the DZ pretty handily at about 11/12 if you have the appropriate gear. Just avoid players who are in a team and be smart about where and how you engage the AI.

I think I'm 12 atm. Not sure if I leveled up last night because I can't remember much about it.

My biggest issues in the DZ is AI around every corner.

It can feel that way, but you get to know what areas they spawn in and find alleyways and routes to get you around. If you're starting out in the DZ just remember that until you have some levels and credits you've nothing to lose in there anyway so you might as well explore a bit.

Yeah I'm something like level 10 in the DZ. I think my main issue is underpowered weapons so I'm struggling to put enemies down, particularly those who charge. I can't put them down even emptying an entire mag into them. by the time I switch to my secondary or reload they're killing me with a bat.

Ah that would get you all right. My primary takes out one of those bat-runners with just under a mag. If it didn't, I'd be pretty fecked for sure.

Sentry guns are good at distracting enemies that rush in. Also having a shotgun ready is useful. The incendiary grenades stop enemies coming in if you drop them just slightly ahead of your position.

I need to watch a video on the gernades and the sentry gun. I'm unable to use either.

grenades I've no hassle with, but the amount of times I've set my sentry gun down, safely behind cover and out of the line of sight of enemies is laughable.

You know you can throw it by holding the button down yeah? I find it works best somewhere off the ground a bit away from the enemies. It becomes more useful when you unlock the mods for it too.

Found the flame mod is good for those rushing enemies. Plus it stops them in there tracks and makes them a open target. Just not great range

Don't forget you can mod your armor to boost your stats as well, only blue armor and above I think

    Just a few more observations:

    Armour:
Is not as critical a decider as you might think. I currently have 2570 armour rating, that equates to a 36% damage reduction. Which sounds nice and I'm sure does help a but doing the math shows that 1 armour point mitigates .014% of damage, so you need approx 71 points of armour to mitigate damage by 1% . So stack that up against the other benefits an item might have and a lot of the time it may not really worth it - e.g. an item that adds 5% more health at the cost of 2% damage reduction's worth of armour.

Yellow/Gold vs. Purple vs. Blue vs. Green
In my experience most Blues have trumped green items in the same class easily. However the gap is lessened for Purple vs. Blue, yes Purple will more likely be better but not always. I traded out my Purple level 30 assault rifle for a Blue last night initally based on stats (slightly more DPS), and when testing also found the weapon just handled better. Which also brings up the point that numbers are not everything. Just because a weapon has a higher accuracy rating does not mean it will always land more shots on target when things like stability and RoF are brought into the mix. If they are close statistically take the new one for a field test.
I got my first gold item yesterday (DZ drop) and it was not significantly better than the purple it replaced, it had a little more armour and an extra buff but that was it. Also to recalibrate Gold takes Phoenix credits so it's relatively expensive modifying them.

    Buffs:
What's useful? Hard to gauge really since the actual values tend to be quite low '3% increase in temporary cover duration'....whoopy fkn do. Also I think what works changes as you level up. Midway I found an item with Health-per-kill, only small but found this extremely useful. Since the game segments your natural health regen into 3 segments you will often find yourself using a health pack to recover a lost segment post-fight, with even just a small per-kill health boost it will push you over the line and let that segment regen on it's own. It's also a buff you can roll to add in the recalibration station to purple items (since in 40+ hours I have only found 2 items that had it naturally).
End-game you need to add protection-from and damage-to Elite buffs as much as possible. You will run into them a LOT. Turrent life and so on tend to be so low that they are not worth it imho (and are often overshadowed by the available skill mods and talents). Ammo capacity is another important one, especially early on when you have less of the map unlocked and don't have access to the talents/perks/skills that let you conserve it more. Headshot damage is extremely important nearer end-game so boost that directly and with critical shot buffs, when you are being rushed by 5 or 6 purple or Elite enemies you will have to be headshotting like a demon no matter how high your DPS is (which is a reason LMGs become less useful later aswell, accuracy for those head-shot crits is....well...critical :) ).

    Your friendly neighbourhood Turret:
End-game it can't do serious damage to opponents. In the lvl 30 DZ they literally walk up to it and kick it to death in seconds. What it is great for is a distraction so later in the game get out of the habit of deploying it in good extended line of sight positions and instead try to throw it into concealed positions that would allow it to activate if/when the enemy is within say 20 feet of you, e.g. behind the next bit of cover up from you. Whether it gives you time to kill them or to run for more distance to re-engage (or for your life...) it's value now lies in it's ability to distract rather than directly harm.

There's a talent that will give you a chance for every enemy within a certain radius to catch fire too that pairs with that very well, also one which does the same for shock which I prefer as it had fairly long range.

Darragh 64m/s isn't to bad for your ping. Could you get a loan of the disk from a friend to see would it work?

I could try that! I checked my college speed and that was 8ms as well :o I think the lag compensation in cod has painted over these problems for quite some time. Not sure if much of my friends are getting it for the PS4 that I know however.

Isn't the patch like 3gb?. It would take a week before he even played it.
That's another problem with it. I don't think it would take that long, maybe 30 hours or something IIRC? It's solvable but awkward to bring it to a friend's house as Emmetkenny has already said.

Ah sure I could just buy the game and chance it :pac: Thanks for your advice on it as well!

downloaded this game over the weekend and I am really enjoying it so far.

However, maybe its just me, but I find all the different modifications quite confusing. I guess I'm just not used to it and haven't played a game like it before.

Takes a lot of rounds to put down enemies !
