Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

The main issue would be getting back to the cars/civilisation but we could work that out later.

St Kevin's bus service returns to Dublin, leaving Roundwood 6pm. (or leaving GdaL 5:40pm if you were to continue your run along WW to there)

As far as I'm aware that service goes nowhere near the Marlay Park area (where cars would be parked)? I could be wrong though.

There's a bus back from Roundwood to Dublin.

Which would allow for refreshments in Roundwood. http://www.glendaloughbus.com/ Leaves at 16.45 from the Roundwood inn.

See Kurt has got ahead of me. Always the option of a bus/Luas out to Marlay park.

Really looking forward to my first mountain running expedition! After seeing the great hype and performances on the Wicklow Way Relay last month I'd had my mind set on trying some of the legs first hand.

Thanks to belcarra for having interest in it also as I would be totally lost otherwise. :D Would be great to get a good group together.

Count me in. Taxi back to Marley divided by 4 might be cheep enough? Looking forward to this, WW solo race 2014 here we come???

Count me in. This will be great prep for the Dublin mountain plod two weeks later. I'm a little concerned the distance might be too much for me but ill build up my distances again over the next few weeks. Happy to split a taxi back to Dublin south after with someone.

Stick me down as a maybe. It would be good training for the alpine marathon.
    Will there be medals?

I'm a maybe for this as well- might fit well to kick off Budapest training...

Stick me down for the Ultra option (Marley - roundwood, follow the WW back to glencullen then follow the DMW back to Shankill and home).

Should make for a great last long run before Bay2Bray :)

Just got a taxi quote from a local guy for €10 a head back to Marley (Sth Dublin). I can organize for any one interested closer the time.

Put me down as a maybe too - been planning to cover some of the other legs in the relay too. A nice kick start to the autumn marathon training cycle alright!

oooh getting serious now that there's a table. I did this run last year with a mate and it's brilliant. Started off in Marley in the sunshine having to remove layers, then went through snow on Djouce before back to sunshine by the time we got to Lough Tay. Drizzle, rain and hail in the intermediate bits :D. Would love to join you but I'll be away foreign, best of luck!

I went over a part of it last week(started from marley park) on the rothar and bloody hell theres a few climbs. They come fairly quickly too, just after the first mile. Lovely route though.

IMRA are still looking for a Race Director for this event so the entry details will probably not come live until after that time. Keep an eye on the IMRA event page for updates.

As long as your papers are in order!
But just so you know where you stand...Culchie > Dub > Corkonian!
You may be required to sit in Third class with blockic on the way back to Dublin...

I hope this post is not out of order.

Careful now! When it comes to Corkonians and the Wicklow way, Paul Tierney and myself might have something to say about who's in first class and who isn't :D

I am free and easy about start time.
I'll propose to start at 10am in Marlay Park (North end of the park).
If there is popular consensus to have a different time then I'm happy to change.

It's approx 38km. Elevation gain appears to be approx 1,400m from the info I saw on IMRA website. We'll be taking it pretty handy regarding pace. I intend to do similar to my previous jaunt across the DMW and jog the easier hills and flats and run the downhills (let gravity decide on pace!). The steeper uphills I will probably ease to a hike.
You should manage it if you have done a few mountain runs at all AR, but if in doubt an option could be to meet us at the road section near Glencullen. That way you will avoid the climb to Kilashogue/Tibradden and about 9km. An hour after kick off around there would be a good bet I reckon.

No problem at all Neckedit, it sounds like a good option for what we are looking for. If you wanna get a quote from him and PM me his details that would be great. Depending on numbers and if people end up doing different paces we may require a couple of journeys yet.

Think might be best for me to miss this, I haven't run beyond 12 miles this year so might not be the smartest thing to try this in 2nd week of marathon training plan

As unofficial supporter supreme to WW attempts I feel a north to south to north run is well over-due. So you have no part in discussions regarding travel back this route as you shall be running it next time if I have my way!

    Now dance monkey-boy, dance!!! :D

That goes for Tierney as well...

The amount of times I've heard it suggested that the next thing to do is out and back.... but *NEVER* by anyone who has actually run the thing :p

But yeah, If I was to join in this particular run, I wouldn't be looking for a taxi back ;)

It's great to see so much interest in this!

Yeah, I think if I do this I might take the out and back option. Would be nice if there were a few people doing that.

here's a link to this exact run, stopping at a bar in Roundwood. It should give you a good idea of the overall elevation and the general spread of climbs. As I remember it, the first climb from M50 to DMW junction and then Djouce were tough. It's a brilliant run though, I'm (almost) disappointed that I'll be in Florida :D

    Pass signed!

Given I'm up at silly o' clock in the morning to drive to portumna, run around for a bit, and drive back I'm surprised she signed off so easily on this one.
It'll cost me in the long run :(
So a 10:00 start from Marley means a 6ish start from cork, can carry 3 if anyone from en-route fancies a go.

Right - got clearance from the Tower at home so I'll be there assuming the body's ok.

Next question: who is doing the 5k Park Run as a pipe opener before hitting the hills :) ?

    The Tower??

The parkrun is a good idea. A nice warm-up and a chance to get your breath back before we start the real deal. We'll all be sprinting up Kilmashogue afterwards!:pac:
