Charge for gestational diabetes test

just a quick one - just rang my doc about the gestational diabetes test and she told me it was 25 Euro. I said I thought that all pregnancy related visits were free, but she said it is because I have to see the nurse twice in the same morning...

If you had this test already, did you have to pay for it?

She said I could try CUHM and they probably would do it for free, but their appointments department is closed now, so will try them again tomorrow.

ask the hospital to do it.
Only a certain amount of pregnancy related visits are free so some doctors are a bit rigid others will see you as much as you need with no charge.

It's now a required test in Galway for all women over 30, so I'll be having it. They do it in and around the 26 week mark. I'd say it's something you can request from the hospital for free if you are a public patient.

I got a letter from Cumh to get it done between 24 and 28 weeks for my GP, but if the hospital will do it for free, I'd rather get it done there :-)

Holles St do it and don't charge. I've never heard of it been done under the care of the GP

My colleague did it with her GP but she is out at the moment so cant ask her if she had to pay.

I organised it with CUMH now and no charge.

I had it done with the nurse at my gp's office and didn't have to pay but before I got pregnant I was always charged for blood work. I was given a letter stating the visits that are covered the same day. There was no mention of paying because I had to see nurse

I had it done by the nurse in GP office too and didn't have to pay anything....

I'm very surprised a doctor would charge. I had it done by my gp and it was free. All pregnancy related tests were. As said above the hospital will do it for you.

I thought it was a bit weird too, but that receptionist can be a bit stroppy at times...
I had to pay for my first appointment too to confirm the pregnancy even though on the HSE site it says that you don't...
