Exam or not?

    Closing date for Comreg Exam applications is this Friday. I am on the verge of applying, but wonder if it is worth it???

    Is there any activity on 2m / 70cm bands as this Is the most likely mobile rig that I would buy ? I am based in Cork.

    All advice appreciated on what level of activity is out there.

    there is a LOAD going on.

    dunno about repeaters for 2m down far south, but HF is pretty good. I had a chat (20m SSB) with a guy bombing along an Autobahn a while back.

    Used gear is for pennies and new Chinese kit is good and costs very little too!

    definitely worth it! hope to see you there, I'm taking it myself. On a side note - there was a news bulletin from IRTS recently that there are so many candidates this year that they are setting up a morning group, that will take the exam at 10.30. (original time was 14.00)

    I'm based in Dublin so I might be wrong, but South Easter Amateur Radio group (http://www.searg.com/) seems like a very active group of amateurs that run multiple repeaters on 2m/70cm, has dozens of members etc. So is North Cork Radio Group - they're organizing a "Fox Hunt" event - read more about it here - http://ei1nc.com/fox-hunt-2013.html

    common sense would suggest - if there would be no activity there, no one would organize and maintain anything..
