    Hi All,

I have an idea for an export business, more niche than specialist. The enterprise would be targeting one region within the BRIC block. It would be a food sector business. What I would like to know is where I could get a reasonably detailed breakdown of exports from Ireland to one of these particular countries. The googling I have done to date only gives me grouped totals by classification and thats not nearly enough to evaluate whether there is scope for my idea ?

    All replies welcomed

Trade statistics will never yield reliable specific product market data. The more niche market, the less accurate the data. This is why the likes of Nielsen have become such huge operations with very specific data on consumer products, buy you have to buy the info. http://www.nielsen.com/us/en.html. You might get some funding towards the cost from your local Enterprise Board for a feasibility study!! Bord Bia, IDB are other possible info sources.

Enterprise Ireland have a huge amount of information and reports in the library at their head office in dublin. However, you need be a "client" to access it.
Since you are aiming to be an exporter that ticks one of their boxes. Food businesses is also high on their favourites list.

Peter is right about a feasibility study from an enterprise board. Its around 60% of the cost. However they will be looking for a local benfit (jobs) in order to help.
An advantage of getting this grant from the enterprise board is the chance of an introduction to enterprise Ireland and then access to their library.
