343 listeners to my feed...that has to be a record ;-)

  • Registered Users Posts: 208 ✭✭brasher

There was a radio commentary feed earlier, someone describing what was going on. Can't find it now, anyone point me in the right direction? I'm in Rathmines and the larger aircraft are turning right over our head, great view!

Going to take my dedicated feed down in a few as well. Between myself and Mech1 we were providing a stream to almost 500 people at one point. It's a bit sad but that has really made my day. The fact that the weather held off mixed with the atmosphere here in the city center it's been a good day.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,116 ✭✭✭Mech1

new record for my feed topped out at 113 listeners, thanks for taking the heat off me Dublinflyer, if you know what I mean;)

Thanks Dublinflyer and Pat. It wouldn't have been as good without the ATC feeds :)

I saw something like 390 on Dublinflyer's one, take that JFK :pac:

    Well done lads

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,116 ✭✭✭Mech1

I'm wondering how many new listeners we will have recruited today?

Gotta be one or two that where here for the first time and enjoyed the feeds.

    Pat.

edit: Still 21 listeners on my feed at this time on a Sunday is double the norm.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,116 ✭✭✭Mech1

Hi again, so the Flightfest was a huge success,:D

New listener record here anyway. Congrats to DublinFlyer on the Flightfest feed record:D

My feed is a bit cluttered now so can someone help me out by posting a poll on the freq that you people want left in.

    Frequency Station
    118.5 Flight Info Service
    118.6 Tower
    119.55 Secondary Approach
    119.925 Holding Freq
    120.75
    121.1 Approach
    121.5 Emergency
    121.6 Fire Station
    121.8 Ground
    124.65 Upper South
    126.25 Dublin Center South
    129.175 Dublin Center North
    131.5 Aer lingus op's
    131.55 Ryan air op's
    132.575 Lower North
    122.95
    136.175 ATC Backup
    122.4 Weston Tower
    121.875 Clearance Delivery Service
    123.45 International Pilot Chat

That table covers generally what your listening to at the moment.

I dont have time to do this myself, so up to you guys,
Poll results will be the direction the feed goes.
    Thanks,
    Pat.

I noticed Weston in the mix around 1430 today. Is this planned?

Not exactly planned, just a leftover from flightfest, but whatever I'll leave it in someone might want it, if its getting in the way then let me know.

I don't regularly listen to the feed, its up to you lot what you want.

Sorry but thats the way it is, no point telling you any different.

    Pat.

For me to be honest I'd prefer Weston over likes of Aerlingus/Ryanair ops and some of the other frequencies that are listed.
There has been significant increase in traffic in weston both Ifr and Vrf.

Aircraft with hydraulic problems in the ULTAG hold coming in to land. Informed tower that he will need a tow off runway, and emergency services on standby... Could get interesting! Hope all ends well

  • Registered Users Posts: 726 ✭✭✭Shamrock231

Fair bit of holding going on alright, looks like they've switched to RWY 16.

  • Registered Users Posts: 726 ✭✭✭Shamrock231

Personally I like having the Ops frequencies in there, makes for some interesting background on what's actually going on in the air...

Mech1 - many thanks for the quality of the Dublin ATC feeds.

Selfish I know, but I personally would prefer the feed to exclude Weston from the mix as I use the feed to supplement my ADSB monitoring of Dublin traffic and the majority of Weston traffic is not ADSB equipped. During the earlier aircraft incident today at Dublin the high level of ATC radio traffic from Weston somewhat interrupted the flow of info from Dublin. Obviously, the nicer weather and the fact that it is a weekend increased the Weston radio traffic, so today might be an exception.

I'm also a fan of the ops frequencies. Gives an insight into what goes on behind the scenes.

Sorry people, the feed was down all day till now, we had a Netflix sound issue and the family get priority, all rewired and sorted now.
    Pat.

Excellent sound quality on the feed (bar one), thanks! Re-reading the thread, I think you are using a Bearcat 780XLT for scanning - am I correct? Also see you are using RG213. Are you using a PL259 to BNC adaptor to connect this directly to the scanner or do you use a "pigtail" (smaller diameter cable)? I find that RG213 is very difficult to bend into a confined space.

The tower frequency (118.6) is very weak (fair bit of noise), but this might be a local issue in the control tower. I presume you are using one antenna for all frequencies?

    1, Yes 780xlt

2, No adapter, dont know the correct name but its RG213 to BNC. I remember having to "ream out" one connector to fit the coax, that was prob the one.

    3. Tower reception seems to come and go here, nothing i can solve sofar.

    4. Yes same antenna / scanner for all public freq.

    Pat.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,711 ✭✭✭fat-tony

My scanner is a Fairhaven RD500 and it uses a type-N connector and I found it difficult to connect RG213 but managed to wrangle it eventually! It's difficult to connect this cable to lightweight hand-held devices, though, as it's so stiff. I used a female N type to SMA pigtail to try out my radar box (Beast), but eventually ended up using satellite cable for that.

My radio reception of Dublin airport is patchy - can hear the planes ok, but reception of the controllers is weather dependent as I'm in the shadow of Bray Head, so your feed is an absolute godsend:)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,863 ✭✭✭✭crosstownk

    My 2 cents here.

While I've no issue with listening to the Weston feed (it can be interesting), I'm of the opinion of "One airport - one feed". The feed is for EIDW and not EIWT. That's just my opinion, others may disagree.

Thanks again, Pat for a magnificent, high quality feed.

Feed going off EIDW for 1hr from midnight, testing purposes,

If you hear a distant callsign and find it on Flight radar24 let me know, going for distance available from aircraft test.

    Pat.

I will be online, what testing do you need help with?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,116 ✭✭✭Mech1

Just listen in to my feed and try to find the aircraft heard on flight radar, zoom in to that aircraft and report over ground position when heard, looking to find out how far away we can hear them.

    Pat.

:(Doesnt work, just jumps straight into a search again as soon as trans stopped. gotta prog a bank of channels and try again:(

Plus search takes too long scan would work better.
