It's like the thread about Go gym. Everyone slagging it until they found out who was actually behind it and then it was all praise. :D:D:D

who was behind it ? was it just the talafornia lot?

I thought it looked a decent gym but I had to delete them from FB as they were posting 10000000000000034 posts an hour when they first opened

    advertising overkill

Dublin-based folks: I'll be in and around the city centre next Wednesday with a few hours to kill and am looking for a gym to train in, most likely around 11am. What would be the best option that allows people to walk in off the street? Factors like decent free weight facilities and likelihood of it not being mobbed are also important. All suggestions welcome :)

So got myself some 0.5kg plates. Goingto give micro-loading OHP a go.
If use them to break up current 2.5kg increases (2x 1.25kg), I'll be left with a +1kg one week, +1.5kg the next, ans so on.

Is it worth the effort to increase the 1kg to 1.23kg wit collars to make them even?

And, anybody got any tips for voodoo flossing the hip joint?

Can only think of what I saw on mwod which was when he wrapped it up, he did some hip hinging, very light DLs and some stretching like kneeling hip flexor stretch. Then hip flexor stretch with resistance band in around the back and anchored to rig in front.

Edit: Think this is what I was talking about.

Thanks Alf. I was search voodoo wand nothing coming up. Just realised I should try "compression" too. But luckily checked in here once more. Savedebthw hassle.

What's peoples thoughts on paused squats? and if my regular sets are 100kg what weight should I start at?

They're really good for building strength out of the hole.

The weight you start at kinda depends on the pause. Shorter pause means you can handle heavier weight. But nothing wrong with starting at 50% of your max and getting a good pause in and seeing how that feels. Try and be consistent with the pauses as well.

Think I'll introduce them myself when I'm finished the cycle I'm on.

Since I posted I've found this

    Week 1: 3 sets of 5 reps with 50% using a 7 second pause
    Week 2: 3 sets of 4 reps with 60% using a 5 second pause
    Week 3: 3 sets of 3 reps with 70% using a 3 second pause

Am thinking of doing my normal squats on a monday then doing the above on a friday.

    thats a seriously long pause!

I regularly program them with clients and its fairly simple - pause at rock bottom (3secs) 3reps one week and pause at sticking point week 2 (1secs) 3reps week 2, rotate, use between 70-80% of training max (a max you know you can hit every week or 10% lower than actual max (max CANT be a max you hit 2years ago when all your ducks lined up).

Second of third squat day of the week will use % based training

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 24,676 ✭✭✭✭Alf Veedersane

    7 seconds is a Chad Smith-esque pause.

3 second eccentric, 3 second pause, 3 second concentric. Front squats.

Only exercise that has consistently delivered DOMS after every session and I've done them every week for 4 months. Brutal.

I know DOMS isn't an indicator of effectiveness etc. blah blah whatever yes it totally is.

How many times per week are you front squatting?

went for my medical yesterday for a job

I have 20-20 vision when using both eyes

separately my right eye is perfect but left eye is ****

couldn't even read a letter of the top line

how can I have 20-20 vision if my left eye is so ****?

As it stands I have failed unless I get contacts for the left eye and pop them in when im working.

covered the right eye and read using my left.

I thought it would be straight forward before the test as ive never had issues with my eyes and when he did both at the beginning and said I had 20-20 then my right eye, everything seemed great

I was in 2 minds to do that speech josh harnett gave the nurse in peral harbor but the optician was male and im ugly so it probably wouldn't have worked

Your right eye is better than 20/20 and compensates.

    So actually did

    2x5xbar 1 set paused
    2x5x40kg 1 set paused
    2x5x50kg 1 set paused
    5x5x70kg 3 sets paused

    3 sec pause

    it was plenty long enough.

I find it very hard to put on size on my legs

I train them every week and actually look forward to it as I get a great work out and lift reasonably heavy for reps and sets. My technique is fine, feet wide enough apart, low enough down, back straight etc

Im naturally very lean and whilst I notice a difference in strength etc I still feel my legs should have the courtesy of looking a little bigger than what they do

    im 85kg

    im deadlifting 190 for 5
    benching 120 for 6
    Squatting 140 for 6

I seem in good enough shape but I just wonder if there was a better way to approach putting size on the legs

I do back and front squats, hamstrings and leg extensions

don't have time for leg press

Didn't really answer the question. If you want to add size to legs then you have to add mass to your body.

    Ps nice numbers
