I find it very hard to put on size on my legs

I train them every week and actually look forward to it as I get a great work out and lift reasonably heavy for reps and sets. My technique is fine, feet wide enough apart, low enough down, back straight etc

Im naturally very lean and whilst I notice a difference in strength etc I still feel my legs should have the courtesy of looking a little bigger than what they do

On the flip side, it means not having to replace trousers because your thighs are too big.

that's true, leaves with 2 options

    1) quit leg day completely and use the day doing bicep curls

    2) acquire some synthol.............

Or put socks used for padding lower down trousers than usual.

    im 85kg

    im deadlifting 190 for 5
    benching 120 for 6
    Squatting 140 for 6

I seem in good enough shape but I just wonder if there was a better way to approach putting size on the legs

I do back and front squats, hamstrings and leg extensions

don't have time for leg press

    Few options...

    Get stronger - 140x6 @ 85 isn't all that strong

Eat more - if you're naturally skinny you've no option but to force feed to gain mass

More exercises - start doing high volume leg press

More volume / lower intensity - getting strong is important, but I've seen a lot of dudes who couldn't walk out my warm ups with legs much bigger than mine because they did more high rep work, and did more exercises

Sounds decently strong to me, it would be bang on advanced according to strstd

    Yesterday I did

    60*8
    80*8
    100*8
    120*8 * 2
    130* 8 *2
    140*6 *2

I recognize I should probably go from 60- 100 instead of doing 80 and maybe just one sets of 120 and 130 and then go for 3 sets of 8 at 140kg?

I find it hard though jumping from 60 straight to 100kg? not sure why as I warm up etc

oh and appreciate the advice Hanley

    60 x 8
    80 x 8
    100 x 5
    120 x 3
    130 x 1
Then 140 for sets and reps, if 140 is your working weight,

It's really not. No disrespect to anyone moving those weights or anything.. but it's not "big leg strong".

It's "I've done a bit of training and look alright".

One of the lads I train has done this over the last 10-12 weeks once per week...

    6 weeks: 60% of 1RM 10x10 w/ 90s-2min recovery, every time you hit 10x10, or get over 85 reps, go up 5kg

    6 weeks: 75% of 1RM 10x5 w/90s-2min recovery, every time you hit 10x5, go up 5kg

He finished up today on 110kg 5x5 and 5x3-5 on 105kg.

    Starting max was 120kg.

    His legs grew.

...and I think we coulda got em to grow faster with a day of leg pressing, leg extensions and walking lunges, if that was the priority.

It's lagging relative to a 120kg bench. So I'd say his life risk to to go a bit higher.

Adidas specialty sports.ie has free shipping until the 1st of March. So with the 15% off for the newsletter thingy, I could get the black adipowers for about €150. Is that a good deal compared with other sellers?

Would get the power perfects but they don't have any size 10 unfortunately.

For the day that's in it. What's a good pancake recipe? I remember there was one on here before.

  • Posts: 0 CMod ✭✭✭✭ Janelle Creamy Crown

There's a banana and two eggs one for banana fritters
I usually use oat flour and an egg or two and milk... Golden syrup... Yus

Pancake Tuesday would go by unnoticed by almost everyone back home. Only found out it was a religious event when I moved over here

not a fan of them anyway

Pancakes are love, Pancakes are life!

My go to recipe for Crepes is

    1Scoop whey
    1 banana
    2 whole eggs
    75ml Coconut milk
    cinnamon
    vanilla extract

Fry in a small amount of coconut oil.

    Nommers.

If you're interested, the recipe is:

    Sprouts.

But it needs the spinny tubey bits or it wont work :-/

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,561 ✭✭✭JJayoo

If you get the tube that comes with silage wrap, ask any farmer, you can slide a barbell through it, place barbell on safetys and you now have the most amazing/brutal way to roll your groin as you can manipulate yourself ( position wise and weight distribution wise) very easily onto it. I have managed to hit certain parts in that region that I have never even noticed while trying to roll on the ground.

PS you really do need a narrow roller, if it just about slides in on the barbell then it's perfect

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 39,671 ✭✭✭✭Mellor

I really think you could easily do a DIY of the Mobility Wod roller. It's pretty much just Rollerblade/Skateboard wheels on a metal bar.
The 'Battle Saw' attachment looks like torture though.

    I discovered a new pancake recipe yesterday;

    The recipe is;

    6x weeks of control
    3-4x training sessions per week
    30x minutes of exercise daily
    0x binging
    1x healthy outlook towards food

The yield is eating whatever the **** you want on a given day because you're not some sort of food nazi the rest of the time who can't display long term change and instead goes to binge and purge.

Just seen a very simple nutritional guide (video) on facebook posted by Hanley.
Palm sized protein, handful of veg, fist of carbs, thumb of fat.
Prob not a big breakthrough for most here, but very useful for the masses.

No doubt some will still manage to cock it up.

    I love veg
Gime all the courgettes and aubergines and bell peppers
    And olive oil and pesto
    And meat

You start your own gym and institute extreme punishments for lack of progress.

I imagine Hanley has a fridge full of fat thumbs.

Im sorry, I don't quite understand the first sentence. Could you make it more simpler for me please? thanks

Also, Id just like to discuss fruit and vegetables. 5 a day is a myth, eating 5 a day is no better or worse than eating 0 a day

The government guidelines for this 5 a day was just plucked out of thin air

Not even discussing the freshness and poisons and other mind controlling toxins that the government force the farmers to spray on them

just thought I would put that out there

I wasn't suggesting Hanley invented it. Or even that it was the first time I'd heard of it.
I was just pointing out that's its incredibl simple and people will still manage to mess it up.
tbh, I was initially going to highlight a question I thought was ridiculous, but decided against it as it's unfair, and not exactly a random person on the Internetz.

Earley also reckons the excessive time spent in the gym, possibly doing excessive weights, is also contributing to players burning out at a younger age.
“The groin and hip injuries, I think goes back to the time in the gym. There needs to more supervision, to get form correct, before you go on to weights. There’s always a rush to get weights on before you actually get your technique and form right. I learnt that myself, even towards the end of my career, trying to do stuff that you probably shouldn’t have been doing. I consider myself to be smart enough to know but I still let myself get caught.”

Interesting comment from a former top GAA player, although I'm not surprised given what I saw in first hand in gaa over the years.

Funny photograph of Earley while I'm off topic
