Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

A couple of Irish female weightlifters are about to lift in the 58kg B group at the 2015 European Championships in Tbilisi. Here's a live stream if you want to watch.

    Live Scoreboard

Europsport are also showing the A groups all this week. Usually from 15:00 (women's sessioons) or 17:00 (men's sessions) although it varies a bit so check the listings.

    Snatch done.

    Hilary Riordan 54/56/58x
    Emma Alderdice 69x/69/71

Clean and jerk up next (about 25 mins from now probably).

EDIT: Both finished their C&J's now as well.

    Hilary Riordan:
    S: 54/56/58x
    C&J: 71x/71x/71
    T: 127

    Emma Alderdice:
    S: 69x/69/71
    C&J: 80/84/86
    T: 157

Thought Riordan was unlucky to get called for a pressout on her first Clean and Jerk. Did well to make sure of it the third time and make a total.

2 pretty cool things happened in the gym yesterday.
I meet the owner as I'm going in the door and while we're chatting he asks me as I'm new there, how I'm getting on and is there anything extra I'd like in the place. (He's already putting up a best lifts board at my suggestion)
That's the first time I've ever had some take a genuine interest or look for suggestions on how to improve a place.
Secondly while I'm training a woman comes in to train in an electric wheelchair. Now that takes balls to come in and do for the very first time. Theres lots of posts on here about people feeling intimidated or uncomfortable going into a gym, I felt like that at the start too but after seeing her train I feel like a bus and a waster for ever ever going through the motions in any session ever.
    Rant over! :-)

Ah the baby food diet, will this finally get me the body I want?!

Mashed carrot + parsnip is amazing though so I imagine throwing an apple in the mix just makes it better

For someone who hated carrot and parsnip as a kid, this blew my mind.

There was a baby food diet? Jesus. I shouldn't be surprised though.

I tried that, but my baby was pissed off at me eating his dinner the whole time

I saw an episode of supersize vs superskinny where they did a bit where a presenter tries a few different fads and reports back any results and how she feels. She didn't have good things to say about em. Anyway the baby food diet was one of them. She hated it and said she'd also never ask a baby to eat that stuff either iirc
    Hehe

I had duck and a mountain of veg stir fry for lunch. Om nom

On a related note, they had three willing folk try three different 'detox' diets on The Consumer Show last night. Some juice diet, clean 9 and some ofther guff. Negligible or no difference in liver or kidney function.

They felt cheated. Especially the lad that did the Clean 9 nonsense and had to endure drinking the aloe vera.

    Rabbit-holing across all sorts today.
Thought this was a bit insane.

In metric, its about 136kg @ 70kg. For reference, here's the men's 69kg in Beijing. So equal to about 15/24 at the olympics, for a non-weight lifter, with hang snatch.

The NFL really has freak athletes.

And that Lipsey hang snatch is truly insane. The stability he's demonstrating is unreal.

I see that the university sports arena are advertising 5 mornings of Intensive Insanity workouts. 4 from Tuesday to Friday morning and then the 5th next week.

Surely this is not the best way to start a new programme especially if you're not fit?

This is not the first time they have run this 5 day insanity thing.

They also have a regular insanity class/body pump class/ TRX class etc so maybe it is targeted at those people rather than complete beginners.

While I didn't participate in the last 5 days of insanity, I did see that it was very popular although the numbers did seem to drop off as the week went by.

Yeah I could understand if it was for people that regularly do the above classes or other type of training.

It would be too much for somebody starting from scratch.

So I was suppose to be testing this week. But I was sick at the weekend and evidently not recovered.
Would I be better off in resuming testing as soon as I feel up to it, or sahould I talk a week deload and test next week. As if I was to take a deload week between the end of a strength cycle and a comp.

Bleh, I think it doesn't really matter what way you skin it - you're not going to get the results your training probably deserved. I would take a week to deload though, get fully recovered and attack testing next week with whatever you got and then move onto your next training cycle knowing that you're in full health anyway.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 39,615 ✭✭✭✭Mellor

I'm leaning towards that tbh. Eat, rest, get some reps in with 60%, and try to salvage as much strength as possible. Re-attack in a week.

You're at an Advanced level for most of your lifts now I would have thought so you probably need to be feeling pretty good for test days!!

I don't think that's recent, think it's from 2014. The Weightlifting Ireland website doesn't get updated much, the facebook is the place to look for up to date information.

Was just reading something about push:pull. And it mentioned that a persons bench press should be roughly equal to the weighted pull up (inc Bodyweight).
I've haven't tested my weighted pulls up. But I know my bench press 1rm and 5rm and I doubt I could hit the same for a weight pull up 1rm or 5rm.
    But maybe I'd surprise myself.
