    China
    Russia
    United States

The boys in green should be ok ;)

On another note I was looking at some recipes on The Protein Chef today. He uses protein baking powder in a few thing. Is this just unflavoured whey isolate/concentrate?

Just seems to be whey protein concentrate.

    6 sports flagged apparently

Weightlifting, athletics, wrestling, cycling, gymnastics, swimming would be my guess.

Depends if athletics is a sport as a whole, of subdivided in events.

It wasn't mine anyway but if I'm going to buy a bar I'll probably just get a Moro and be done with it.

Trying to cut weight at the moment for a BJJ competition and it's far harder than I thought! It's 6kg in 6 weeks (75->69kg). Stuffing my face with all of the dark green veg I can get a hold of along with lean meat, eggs and some nuts to snack on occasionally but still find my head getting foggy at times throughout the day.

I don't know how people manage to completely dehydrate themselves and cut lots of weight in a short time period without going insane!

You should watch conzy's weight cut vlog where he cut ~5.5kg in a week in your kinda weight territory.

Given it was 2008 and the dark times had recently ended, I imagine some cyclists are sweating. I'd be interested to see who started the road race that year, there might be some Tour de France stricken from the record again.

Is weigh-in the same day or the day before?

It's the same day. The tournament is specifically for white belts with less than 6 months training, it's being held in a BJJ gym in Dublin with little capacity so everything is happening on the one day. Going to be a bit of a trek from Galway to get to it but hoping it will be worth it!

The approach I used is only for 24 hour weigh in. You'll have to just try and lose as much fat as possible between now and the weigh in.

You can cut about 2% for a same day weigh in according to the all seeing all knowing Greg Nuckols

Moved out the sticks so I'm doing about 15 hours of commuting a week. Haven't even unpacked the PC since :(

    Might be back soon ™

Honestly it's not worth it at this point. Just compete in the 80kg bracket. You'll be fine.
In fact you'll probably perform better with 4 weeks of solid nutrition and training, and proper food and drink on the day. Rather of rocking up as a exhausted 69kg

Find out if you weigh-in in the gi or not. If it's with the gi, you'll be 78kg-ish now.

I'd assume he's talking about weightlifting only. Not a Good idea in a typical BJJ comp where weigh in right before the match.

If any real golfer reads that he'll be pretty p1ssed, golf is probably his only exercise...

Then again NEAT would probably be lost on him..

You'll be cycling next, it's the new golf

36 holes of pitch and putt at home on your own used to be like cardio cos you'd end up galloping up and down hills trying to get the two rounds done

Its a build up of lactic acid in the muscle isn't it? Having suffered it, I don't know if its preventable but its definitely painful! Usually only suffered it when dehydrated or returning from fitness.

Hydration and replenishment of electrolytes is key but it's very difficult to assess if a player is replacing enough electrolytes, especially for a player like Bale who covers an awful lot of ground.

Different things can cause camp including dehydration, fatigue, very minor tendon damage and others.

No one thing has been shown to cause it and nothing will 100% prevent it.

No, I don't think that it is.

Lactic acid also doesn't cause DOMS, although it usually gets the blame.

Your body, especially heart, can use lactic for fuel. The Hydrogen ions are what cause muscle burn when on the limit...

Ross Tucker has great 5/6 series on cramp. For me cramp coincides with an event where duration and intensity is above what my preparation should have me able for.

The electrolyte cause is common knowledge at this stage but often not the cause at all

    http://sportsscientists.com/2007/11/sports-drinks-sweat-and-electrolytes/

The cramping series is buried it that website somewhere

The bit in bold is something they would use in the OED as an example of a contradiction in terms.

And by the time DOMS kicks in, lactic acid has long cleared.

    Also, that jump was sick

Quick one, at what stage does a belt become necessary for lifting?

Have reached a double BW squat without one, and close to 2.5 BW deadlift. Would it add numbers or just help to support the core and improve form?

Now, never and sometime in the future are all valid answers.

Are you planning on competing? If you are you should get a belt. If you're not you probably should with those numbers.

Competing is something I would like to do in all honesty, but I feel it would probably require more dedication than I am able to give currently.

So in the short term no, I likely won't be competing!

You're wayyy stronger than me (1.48x BW squat), and I've competed.

    Do it.

    Hmm. Food for thought.

What would be the relevant organisation and what would be required to move from gym lofter to competitor equipment-wise and technique-wise?
