Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Heh, I guess that feeds into my next question, how much of an issue is 'buttwink'. I know some circles say it's the worst thing in the world and others say its' fine.

If you're doing loaded squatting then buttwink should be avoided imo. The continium should be mobility, stability then load(ility)

Just a quick question on Wendlers 5/3/1 guys. Does the programme run for 3 weeks, then test and then deload or 3 weeks, deload and then test?

    Just bought these books;

    Rob Wolfe – Paleo Solution
Kelly Starrett – How to be a supple leopard
Weston A Price – Nutrition and Physical degeneration.

Anyone know where I could get Dan John & Pavel – Easy Strength? The book shop.co.uk don't have it.

Stretch you calves and spend 15minutes a day total time in an atg squat position

If they intorduced those "squatty pottys*" that you see in Asia it would solve a whole load of hip mobility issues.

*I don't know what they are actually called but this name seems appropriate

Reminded me of the last time I had an office job ~10 years ago, when some of the behemoths that worked that started sweating from the strain of typing you'd swear something had curled up in the corner shat itself then died. I dread to think what it would be like if they were forced to stand all day

Dunno if you meant the low toilets, or these devices. You only need to raise your legs, could be 1 or 2 boxes you put your feet on.

I was referring to the toilets that are really low on the floor that you do not sit on.
The stands look interesting. I don't think I'll be installing them at home though.

In terms of recovery I assume priority goes Time>Food>Sleep right?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 7,348 ✭✭✭the drifter

i think the correct formula is food + (sleep x time) + food = recovery

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,748 ✭✭✭Dermighty

i think the correct formula is food + (sleep x time) + food = recovery

    Simplifies to 2(food) + (sleep.time) = recovery

    so food + (sleep.time) = recovery/2

so food and sleep.time only give you half recovery :(

    Maths in lifting recovery. Baffling!

Ah I can take a fraction off my recover if food is more important than sleep. Grand.

Random thought that came into my head in the gym

Have the olympics ever been held in a city that was pretty high above sea level?
If so, did weight lifting performance improve?

Mexico was the highest. No direct mention of lifting but it does say it affected most sports so I assume lifting is included
The high elevation of Mexico City, at 2,240 m (7,350 ft) above sea level, influenced many of the events, particularly in track and field. No Summer Olympic Games before or since have been held at high elevation. Although a performance reducer for endurance athletes, the thin air contributed to many record-setting jumps, leaps, vaults, and throws, as well as all of the men's track events of 400 meters and less. As a reminder of this fact, one of the promotional articles of these Olympics was a small metallic box labeled "Aire de México" (Air of Mexico), that was "Especial para batir récords" (Special for breaking records).

That's kind of what I was thinking. That the long distance events suffer due to thinner air, but the lifting, throwing, jumping events get a boost due to the barbells, shotput etc technically weighing less.

My fitness pal tells me my tbone steak is 1300 calories....bastards!

I'm assuming that's counting the fat on the steak, which I never eat (bar what renders and ends up as oil on the steak)

Don't go analysing what calories are in a steak! Just. Don't. For now, it's a ten minute stint in the sin bin.
