Heading down to West Clare for a weekend in the Summer with a few lads. Used to always go to Doolin but its gone quite overdeveloped in last number of years so thinking of Miltown Malbay/Spanish Point/Doonbeg instead..
Just looking for somewhere to go for a few pints, swim/surf, hang out by the coast for a couple of days. Not looking for mad nightlife but always good if theres a bit of buzz around some of the pubs, and good beaches nearby.
    Any recommendations would be great..
Also, is Kilkee worth a look for nightlife?
    Cheers!

Miltown/ Spanish Point is good, you could also try Lahinch which has great surfing and nightlife.

Sound, thanks. Meant to say, done Lahinch a good bit over the years and that general area so we were thinking a bit further south down the coast.

I was just thinking if you were coming down earlier that the Willie Clancy Week in Miltown Malbay is on from the 6th to the 14th of July. There's usually a good buzz around the town and Spanish Point for the week. :)

Kilkee would have the best nightlife in August definatley. The Kilkee Bay Hotel has reopened too so that's a help for accommodation.

Carrigaholt isn't a bad spot for what you're looking for....
There could be a few vacant holiday home's for ye to rent for the weekend. ..
Good shore and boat angling, ye could maybe go shark fishing or dolphin watching.

Doughmore beach in Doonbeag isn't too far away, its always surf able when everywhere else is flat but when everywhere else is fired up it could be too big and its prone to rips.

Nice one, thanks for all the info. Probably going to see about holiday home around spanish point, but carrigaholt could be a goer either. The bit of fishing would'nt be a bad job.

There are no pubs in Spanish point, the hotel has a bar although it's a bit more expensive for drink, plenty of pubs in miltown though.

Kilkee is best for nightlife but it's a drive to doughmore beach for surfing.

As for Doonbeg, is it worth looking at as a base for a weekend. Few pints around the viillage on the Friday evening, then Kilkee for Saturday Night? Or is it very quiet altogether..?

Doonbeg would be fine for the weekend too. Tubridys, Morrisseys and Igoes restaurants are all good. Comerfords pub always has a good session of a Saturday night.

willie week is pretty hectic to be honest..everywhere is totally packed out and no comfort to be had in town. sounds like this guy is after a little quieter break..doughmore is great for surfing needs and plenty of nightlife in doonbeg at weekends. kilkee tends to be similar to ballybunion in many ways if you've ever been ther in the summer and if get my drift.. either way.. have fun.. and enjoy the crack.
