ADSL 1 or ADSL2+ in Monastervin?

Hi,

So I finally moved to Monasterevin and got eircom installed, I was at first promised 24Mb, then 15Mb then 1Mb and I finally got 7.3Mb download speed in the end.

I've checked some stats and I don't understand why the download speed is so bad? I mean, I live in Ferns Bridge, at Ferns Close, which is about 900m in a straight line from the exchange and a calculator gave me a distance of approx 1.6km which I suppose is a fair estimate considering the possible cabling route. Anyway can someone informed tell me whether Monasterevin exchange is ADSL2+ enabled? or is it only ADSL 1 ? I thought the local exchange got an upgrade to NGB (ADSL+2) since people in this town supposedly get 15Mb/s which is impossible on ADSL 1.

With the line attenuation I have I should be getting at least 15Mb/s as it is 22.5 dB/ 16 dB and the exchange is definitely less than 2 km away, most likely 1.6 km as previously estimated.

Plus the modem also recognises the connection as ITU G.992.1 which means ADSL 1. Thus I'm in massive confusion now.

Just to make the question clear is the local exchange in Monastervin ADSL2+ at the moment? And if so then why am I only on ADSL 1? and if not then why are other people in this town getting speeds which are impossible on ADSL 1 ?

Thanks in advance,
Kamil

Anyone? Can someone pass this question to an eircom engineer?

Yes monasterevan exchange is ADSL2+ enabled. Is the modem synced at 8mb/512kb or 7mb/384kb? If it is synced on the 8mb you are adsl2 if its synced at 7mb you might be adsl1.

Thanks for the reply, it's synched at 8Mb/ 512Kb at the moment. Do you personally think there is any hope in calling eircom to boost up my speed? I mean the line attenuation is near excellent and with ADSL2+ the 15Mb should be easily achieved, or at least 12 - 14Mb.

What is the SNR margin? if its above 10db down then give sales a call, they will check if it can take higher and put you on that package if you want.

It's 11.5 dB/ 22.0 dB as of now . So I think I'll give them a ring or go on chat and see what can be done about it, thanks for the advice I now at least got something to back up my request ;)

I called an eircom specialist but no luck they said 8Mb is the max they can give me on my line. Ah well it was worth a try, got to wait for efibre now (Monasterevin due 2014) at least there is a date on it, which gives me some hope for the future :) Thanks for the help anyway ;)
