Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

I know this thread is ages old but I heard a bad one today. That Liverpool is Dublin 25 (as in the postcode, D24 being the highest numbered) because of all the Scousers here.

I think you mean because for all the Irish in Liverpool, considering it is the closest city to Dublin

You haven't much to be worried about in life if this upsets you.

Those little things are always remembered when Liverpool are on a good run.

The rise and fall of the affection of the Liverpool fan is always a sight to behold. That's not to have a go at Liverpool, just that they wade in and out of good and bad times so often and are one of the most popular clubs here so it's easy to detect it.

My in laws veer from extreme disinterest and going on about GAA and Munster rugby to suddenly all questions as to whether I saw Henderson's goal.

    It's not exclusive trust me.

You'll find this applies to most fans in Ireland who are just jumped on the bandwagon when picking a team. Generally, kids picked the best team at the time. Or their father did at his time.

A nation of mostly casual fans whose attention perks up when things are going well for their team.

Where did I say it upsets me? I said it made me cringe. That's what the thread is about. Good man.

Going to the shops on a match day seeing grownups wearing their Liverpool/united/arsenal/etc jerseys. I keep thinking of a 12 year old in a 35 year old body.

It is if the people wearing them are not going to the match.

Must have been upsetting you a small bit son if you dragged up a 3 year old thread.

So just from reading a few pages in this thread I gather none of it actually has anything to do with football and it's all just whinging about fans?

That's not even close to being true. Belfast? Newry? Even in Great Britain Bangor is way closer.

I wear my Villa jersey in public the odd time as I'm being punished for indiscretions in a previous life.

I don't know if you can read but it actually says 'I know this is old but something made me cringe today'. Where's the upset there? Should I have started a new thread or simply just add to one that I myself actually started in the first instance and know is there? You getting defensive over a Liverpool related slagging is a bit cringe btw...son.

Your right it's getting blow out of proportion for something harmless. Apologies.

Another thing that had me cringing was when fans of other teams took things far to seriously when things didn't go their way. I used to love laughing at their misfortune

Up until last year when spurs had an awful capitulation in the last few games, when I got angry when anyone brought them up.

It makes me cringe to think that although I laughed at others misfortune, I was no better at all when the shoe was on my foot.

    John Motsons commentary.

It's just embarassing at this stage and really he should be put out to pasture. Not sure if he was ever that great in the first place (certainly not in Barry Davies class) but his commentary on the MOTD highlights consists almost entirely of oohs and aahs with little else on top of it for the pieces he does.

I think Motto is the British equivalent of Jimmy Magee or Johnny Giles.
Well past their best, but you don't want to be cruel to the old buggers. Would look mean.

Well Giles is gone and didnt hear much of Jimmy during the Olympics. Not much on the boxing. Sure I dont think jimmy did football on rte in nearly 20 years.

Sure is tyler even a good commentator? Not many think so.

Ok it was 1:40 in the morning let me rephrase it.

When there was mass immigration from Ireland, Liverpool would have been the 1st port of call for many being the closest big city they could go to to try and get work.
