This show was, to be blunt and in my opinion, fantastic.

The IC title match had a great ending. The Divas match was actually really solid, with a great story. The US title match was solid as well. RVD returns, and they're saving it for a PPV? Shows confidence in him.

The World title match was fascinating. I never, ever expected a double turn, nor that they'd actually manage to pull it off so brilliantly. Just, from a story point of view, a brilliant, brilliant match. It's a shame Ziggler lost the title straight away, but the story completely warranted it, and I can't wait to see what they do with Ziggler now.

Punk vs Jericho started slow, but by the end, I was grinning ear to ear. Loved the ending, loved most of the match, and the crowd were great. Between this and the WHC match, WWE could not have wished for a better crowd tonight.

The tag title match was logical and solid.

And the 3 Stages of Hell match was pretty good too, given the participants. The Lumberjack match had an awesome spot. The tables match was familiar to anyone who went to the last show in Dublin. And although I could see it coming, the end to the ambulance match was fun as well.

Some great wrestling, stories all progressed logically and brilliantly in some cases. Easy 8/10 show for me.

This for me. Everyone was expecting Ziggler to retain but nobody expected a double turn in this manner. It was genius and I think Creative have done the right thing here, as this allows Ziggler to turn face (which was rumoured for a long time) and when he regains the title, which I think he inevitably will, he can have a proper run at being Champion. His time off really hindered his run as Champion in my opinion. Makes me really looking forward to Raw tonight. What will they do with AJ and Big E, though? Face turns for them too or will Big E be AJ's latest and they turn on Dolph? I hope the former, purely because I think Big E would make an awesome face. I can see him going against ADR tonight, actually, if there's no rematch. If there is a rematch, I think ADR will just punish Ziggler to the point that the match has to be stopped.

I'd echo that sentiment x10. Going in, I, and just about everyone else, was anticipating a Ziggler victory and ADR going off on his merry way as a failing face. This came completely out of leftfield, and turned the least interesting feud going into Payback into the most intriguing coming out.

    A 7.

Worthwhile show with some strong matches and most key a bunch of new/refreshed characters building on their momentum.

have to have low expectations going into a lot of ppv's nowadays, so i guess this one exceeded those expectations

Punk/Lesnar has too much potential to not happen.

i wouldn't be surprised if they're starting to drop hints for that towards Mania.

i know I've said, and many have assumed, that Rock might be the one for Lesnar at Mania 30, but realistically, as many have pointed out, he won't risk it with Brock's heavy style.

i've also mentioned Bryan/Punk for Mania, but let's face it, that won't be big enough for Punk by then.

i'm going to hang my coat firmly on the Punk/Lesnar mast for now :D

I'd say Punk/Lesnar might be happening sooner tbh, like at Summerslam.

I don't think they can keep Heyman and Punk together for long if Punk goes face. So they'll need Heyman to turn on Punk soon (maybe even tonight), accusing Punk of abandoning him, letting Jericho humiliate him, etc etc. Could even have Punk vs Axel for Money in the Bank, with Brock helping Axel win and setting up Punk vs Brock at Summerslam.

    it could well be Summerslam.

i think that'd be shooting the load very quickly on it though.

I thought this during the match. The point where Punk was distracted by Heyman on the steps when trying for a GTS and nearly lost as a result, and the point where Punk listened to the chants of "One More Time".

It's definitely happening, I reckon. Another segment that could be interesting tonight.

I must say the last match was poor. Such a crap way to end the match. That ambulance must be paper thin

I see AJ/Big E walking away from Dolph when he's in the armbar during a match. AJ only turned heel and Big E looks like he going to get pushed. It would certainly cement Ziggler's turn. He needs to go it alone at last.

Anyway good PPV probably the best this year

The triple threat IC match was fine
    The Diva's match was fine
Ambrose vs Kane was a disappointment
The WHC match was great storytelling and switch
Punk vs Jericho wasn't their best match but seen Punk back was great
The tag Team was good for the time they got. Can WWE give Bryan some bloody time at PPV's to shine. He was great in the match.
The Main even wasn't great just cause you knew Cena win.

I'm hoping for a great Raw tonight.

It was announced last night at the Payback PPV that Rob Van Dam will be returning to the WWE. What do you think his role should be?

He probably has a large enough fan-base to be launched as a top guy, and could easily be slotted into the title picture. Cena needs a new challenge.

He could be used lower down the card. Matches with any of Paul Heyman's guys could be awesome. There is also the Shield. Meanwhile, guys like Sheamus, Randy, Big Show and now Ryback have nothing going on.

He could be used as a spot monkey. I don't mean this in a negative way. He will be returning for Money in the Bank, a match he could add greatly to. Lets face it, nobody is excited about the thought of what Ted DiBiase Jr. might do with a ladder, whereas you know RVD is going to do something crazy.

Alternatively, they could partner him up with one of the up-and-comers that is struggling to get over, a sort of a mentorship role. Justin Gabriel springs to mind, but I'm sure there are others.

I'm excited for his return, even after the misadventure he had in TNA. If the right RVD turns up, I think the WWE could do some great things with him.

I'd love to know what joker gave this a 1/10 in the poll. A great 'B' Show if ever I saw one. Double turns, new guys getting established, returns, story progression, title changes and great action. The mind boggles.

I'd take a guess rule 1 from the charter but I'm not the mod around here :)
    1. If you are going to post spoilers, etc - please title your thread with "Show name - spoilers". To use spoiler tags in a post, type the spoiler in between
    and
, without the spaces. With regard to PPV spoilers, please refrain from posting untagged results or anything pertaining to the PPV until at least the following wednesday after a PPV. Some people do not get to see PPVs live and wait a day or two. So to be fair to all, use spoiler tags, no matter what thread it is. Zero tolerance here folks.

Just watching this now. Barrett/The Miz/Curtis Axel was a fantastic match. Unreal atmosphere. Just brilliant!

He had it as a stand alone thread outside of the Payback one. Mods must've moved it.

My bad: I started a new thread that didn't warn people there would be a spoiler. Actually, I didn't even think it was a spoiler, seeing as how it was just an announcement and was unrelated to any match result or storyline. I'll know better for the future.

Good enough show, not been watching regularly for the last month or so, but glad I downloaded it.

IC triple threat was fantastic with a inventive finish.Thought Miz did very well too.

Kaitlyn/AJ told was very good, and told a great story.Pity the uber smart fans shat all over Kaitlyn afterwards though.

    Kane/Ambrose was mediocre.

Alberto/Ziggler was a bit botchy, but the double turn was executed surprisingly well.

Jericho/Punk was a bit meh and meaningless but had a few decent spots.Tme for Jericho to take another holiday I think.

Bryan/Orton vs Shield was very well paced and enjoyable, and the finish was nicely done.Very interested in a Bryan/Orton feud.

Cena/Ryback was good chaotic fun, hopefully Cena moves on to a feud with Henry now.

    Lads/Ladies,
Would anyone agree with me that Ryback after last night's defeat has officially been ruined by the WWE and cannot be taken seriously anymore as a legitimate threat( at least for the time being) after being fed to Cena yet again. It is just hard to take a guy seriously who has lost every single PPV match he has been in(with the exception of the no contest at Extreme Rules). I think the WWE have done a horrendous job with a guy who had a fair degree of potential.

That's what wwe have done for years, build up people as big threats only to feed them to the bigger stars and then taper off Bundy, umaga, Gonzales, slaughter etc they can always bring him back though, any consistent enough push and no one will remember his recent run

Well I don't think he's too bad tbh. They came to a draw at Extreme Rules, which to me was WWE's way of putting Ryback over. But also keeping the title on Cena. At Payback, he won the first match in the 2 out of 3 falls match. While Cena won the match, the way I see it. Ryback beating him in the first match shows that he actually can beat Cena, and gave him a bit of a rub. But I honestly don't think Ryback has been ruined. They seem content on pushing Ryback, so as long as he had that backing he shouldn't be too bad. He's by no means worse off then Dolph Ziggler that's for sure.

I thought this during the match. The point where Punk was distracted by Heyman on the steps when trying for a GTS and nearly lost as a result, and the point where Punk listened to the chants of "One More Time".

It's definitely happening, I reckon. Another segment that could be interesting tonight.

Say is it is a face turn Axel will be involved. May not happen for a while may be a slow burner with the 2 of them at each other

Wonder will AJ and Langston follow him or go on there own or with Del Rio.

The IC I liked was a finish I have not seen for while. There was a finish like it in a triple treat years ago for some title where Benoit and Jericko make someone tap out at the same time but match kept going. World Title I think

Watching this now really enjoying it. I get a double turn vibe off both groups here, if Del Rio is heel so is Ricardo. I can see AJ and Big E face since Ziggler is, they could be a great DX style group and could take on The Shield later on.

EDIT: or maybe not going by AJs reluctance to get close to Dolph at the end. Could go either way I suppose.

I'm excited for his return, even after the misadventure he had in TNA. If the right RVD turns up, I think the WWE could do some great things with him.

And he'll be able to coast by doing his regular stuff in WWE much easier.

    8/10.

Great show. In ring everything was very good apart from the man which was passable.

Loved the IC Match finish especially.

Not sure why they're making a big deal of the return of a guy TNA even had no use for though.

Trust Layla, the woman who gets a cheap feel in during matches, to be the one to come out to comfort a vulnerable Kaitlyn. :pac:
Kaitlyn could've easily got out of the hold by falling back on top of AJ.

For the IC match, how often have we seen the ref count a pin when a guy is in a submission hold like that. So shouldn't the win have gon eto both Axel and Miz?

I was sure Punk was going to follow his "It's clobberin time" with a "Snikt!". Anyone else think he looked pretty old?

Del Rio was just a real dick during that match. I can't see AJ turning face now with the way she's treated Kaitlyn lately with Kaitlyn due a rematch as well. I'd say we'll have AJ saying how since she's now champ she can't be seen with a loser like Ziggler. And this will be backed up by Big E who didn't come out to help Ziggler get back to the locker room after the match.
I know it was a heel turn for him, but I didn't like how Del Rio kicked the Divas chamiponship like that. It mightn't be the most important title but it's just disrespectful.

By the time Ryback and Cena came out I was thinking if you took those guys out of the WWE, you could still easily fill a PPV with mostly smaller guys like Bryan, Punk, Jericho, Shield, Ziggler, Del Rio.
Gone are the days of Rock and Austin. This PPV and previous ones proved guys of their size aren't needed to make a great show.

So yeah, I thought this was a pretty good show overall.

As for the RVD return, I hope they just use MitB to set up a feud and not actually give him a case.

  • Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 18,419 Mod ✭✭✭✭DM_7

The way Big E was removed suggests it was done to keep him heel alright. I still hope they keep them together as they have only touched on what the group could achieve,

Punk did look old, but he normally does! I imagine he wouldn't be into maintaining a youthful look like Cena, Orton, Jericho etc.

Only have got round to watching this, enjoyed just about everything but everywhere i have looked today have been raving about the Punk/Jericho match and don't get me wrong i liked the match but match of the year? no where close to that.

Punk/Taker was imo better then last night and even then i wouldn't call that match of the year, the double turn was very well done they had to do something different with Del Rio he wasnt getting over at all much better heel.I gave it a 7.

I think Punk was trying to look like Wolverine. The Gracie Jujitsu hoodie was a cool touch as well though.

I'm glad Fandango wasn't around. Axel winning was a much better moment than anything that they would have done with Fangango.

EDIT: Jericho v Punk was easily a 4 out of 5 for me anyway. Built up and built up throughout to a great finish and the crowd played a big part.

Thought Jericho/Punk was fairly meh,and Punk didn't seem particularly arsed.

Absence makes the heart grow fonder I suppose.

A lot of people overrating Jericho v Punk on Twitter good no doubt but felt a bit slow and going through the motions at points

Enjoyed the Main Event and Cena's top rope dive until they started with the giant Lego ambulance,Great visual though if you ignore the obvious flimsiness of the roof

Caught these two matches on the replay so starting from the start now again

Punk half-assed it. He was more interested in getting himself cheered over producing a good match. Add in that the result was never in doubt and it made for a poor enough match considering those involved.

Ambrose vs Kane never really got going but otherwise it was a very good show. I enjoyed the three way opener the most with either the tag titles or WHC in second place.

I really hope they dont plan on turning Ziggler babyface. The guy is a natural heel and a perfect launching pad for Big E down the line. A Ziggler turn fcuks up everyone else. Either AJ moves on to YET another aliance or she has YET another turn. Neither of which are needed. If Big E stays with him he gets a weak as hell turn and loses the momentum he has been building. Add in that heels are needed, not babyfaces and it makes no sense to turn him.

Have seen people complaining about the Cena dive too. If that had been Bryan or Punk it'd be praised as the greatest thing in the history of the universe. I thought it was great myself, especially the reactions of Sin Cara and I think Titus O'Neill.

As much as I respect Dave Meltzer's opinion, his rating seems pretty off here.

Who woulda thought a divas match would ever rank near the same as a championship match?
