I changed the region of my xbox live account from the UK to Ireland, but the country in the billing contact address in still unchangeably the UK. As is the region on the bottom left hand corner of the screen every time I log into my account on the pc. This means I can't download the free fable 3 game and probably won't be able to download any of the future free games either. Anyone have any ideas?

Did you go through https://live.xbox.com/en-US/AccountMigration ?

Am interested in doing this myself, but in the opposite direction. If it's just billing information, then perhaps you need to update your credit card to an Irish one?

Yeah, that's the process I used and got an email to confirm that the account has been migrated, but the billing address is still the UK. I used an Irish debit card to pay for the xbox live membership, so I don't think it's that.

Got to admit, I'm stumped on this one. Can't find much online other than to contact Microsoft and hope for the best.

It's baffling that a company that promotes itself and its product as so international doesn't allow you to change region easily.

You think it's bad now, I bought an xbox 360 about a month after launch and registered it in Ireland. I moved to the UK a few months later and back then there was no option, and I don't mean online, I mean even when you called Microsoft they did not facilitate the migrating of accounts from one country to another. They actually told me to create a new account and forget the old one.

I didn't because I was stubborn and become more and more frustrated, it was only maybe 2 years ago that this option to actually move country came about, and it took something like 6 weeks for me to get changed but finally it all did get done.

All I can say is call Microsoft, it's more than a little bit annoying trying to complete anything useful on a microsoft website, calling them will at least get the steps moving and you wont have to worry about it even if it does take a few weeks.

Fable 3 should be free across the board. Location should have no bearing on being able to download it. (although I could be wrong)

On switching country assoctiated with your account...

    Note

You can’t change the country/region that is associated with your Xbox LIVE account. If you've moved and want to access Xbox LIVE from your new location, you have to create a new Xbox LIVE account in your new location.

Things have changed since that was written....
If you’re moving to another country or region, you might have to change the region associated with your Xbox LIVE account. You can do this by going to the Account migration page (sign-in required). When you change the region of your Xbox LIVE account, some things are unaffected, like your profile. Other things are potentially affected, such as:

Except it didn't do what it was supposed to do when I tried it and the not being able to download fable 3 because of region issues seems to be fairly common....
