The latest in a long long line of threads in C&T which are nothing but advertisements for their respective companies - both private and CIE group:

    http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=2056974515 - Irish Rail Dublin-Cork for €9.99
Iarnród Éireann are delighted to announce the introduction of €9.99 each way fares from Dublin - Cork for a limited time only. These fares are on selected services daily and quotas apply. What are you waiting for, Book Above Now! Full Terms and Conditions apply.

    http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=2056973551 - Airport Hopper - Maynooth-Dublin Airport new route

Why are these not considered advertising under Boards rules?

The second one in particular is nothing more than a company flyer, no discussion, no feedback, no comment from the OP. And posted by a Mod of the forum no less.

There's a stickied thread for all timetable and route news yet these topics are still created and allowed almost daily, serve purely as advertising and add nothing to the general discussions that takes place. Some topics at least have discussion or user opinion and comment on them rather than simply sticking up a bit of PR but it now seems to be acceptable to just post advertisements without any input. Posts have been reported but nothing is ever actioned.

Why are they allowed when other fora on here clamp down on similar advertising?

The C&T charter even specifically bans it
Posting of spamming, commercial messages, multiple posts on the same topic, creating multiple threads on the same topic and and anything that makes it difficult for users to read the board, including, but not limited to oversized images, non-standard text or fonts (unless there is a particular reason) or use of txt spk.
Commercial advertising without permission. The overt promotion of commercial activity and the use of the board as a vehicle for such are forbidden in accordance with the general rules of boards.ie

The first thread appears to be inciting an anti Irish Rail discussion. It's dismissive of the fare specials.

...and with regard to the second, Victor is about as far from a shill as one could find. Quite the opposite, in fact-his input is usually very well informed and always fair.

Both threads have prompted discussion it seems to me.

I'm guessing it's because the OPs (I assume) aren't associated with the services in question. If LeftBlank worked for Irish Rail or Victor drove the Airport Hopper then there might be questions asked. The charter is really there to stop people promoting their own interests.

Why does it bother you so much?

because the forum is swamped by such threads about any price change or special offer that's run and (usually) it just descends into the same mindless arguments over and over and over (especially if it's CIE related)

Anyway it's just feedback, it doesn't bother me hugely, if boards is OK with allowing it that's fine.
