Looking for some opinions on the Mazda 6 from owners. Thinking of buying a '10. Are they reliable? How economical is the 2.2d version?

    What's your mileage annually?

They are as reliable as any other diesel but definitely not made for town driving. Motorway expect 44-46mpg, N roads 48 way.

    Chauffe, Marcel, chauffe!

I thought the issue of the extremely unreliable Mazda diesel engine in the first generation Mazda 6 was sorted with the new 2.2l engine? Maybe not

You're going to get horror stories on anything. There are a very many 2.2d on the roads and issues are few and far between. Town driving can cause the oil level to rise (happened me once after a number of weeks of town driving and then only very slightly) but checking your oil regularly will solve this. Oil pick-up can get clogged, I haven't heard of this happening anyone on various owners forums but they could be cleaned as preventative work.

Thanks for the replies. I would do fairly high mileage 75% of it is motorway. I know there will be a lot of horror stories but as you said il get that with every car. I got a corolla at the minute, how everyone said it was so reliable it has caused me nothing but heartache!!!!

Any chance both threads on boards and ask money are related?

Have a look at the current model Honda Accord OP, a bit expensive to buy than the 6 so you might have to drop back a year but the current Honda i-DTEC engine seems to be reliable enough.
